Who's going to Napa?
Hi, Its been awhile since I've posted and even longer than I have seen Gordie. Last time I saw him was 08-26-2006. Long stories as to why that is, never because I had the opportunity and passed.
Whoo Hoo! I'm THRILLED to be able to go this time.
I would love to meet up with folks for dinner before the the show. If anyone is interested in this, please contact me here or privately.
Thanks,
Kimberly

Re: Who's going to Napa?
Me too! I have to bring homework to do, but I bet I do nothing of it! Which will be a good thing, for the short term.
I've been through Napa a few times, but have never actually spent time there. Napa is a great destination. The weather should be nice, slight chance of rain.

Well Kimberly you have yourself a great time, and it would be interesting in hearing of how you find Lightfoot's singing voice this time around... from 2006 to 2009 for you !
Since lately the reviews on his singing, has not been too positive.
Maybe a Lighthead (Corfidian) will have better things to say,,, but be honest !

Re: Who's going to Napa?
The Napa show was great! A very enthusiastic crowd. A speaker came on before the show to explain the origin of getting Gord to perform there. Apparently they have been trying for the last four years to get him there. The speaker who was instrumental in getting this opera house "saved", attended that Stein Valley something or other having to do with saving a rain forest, a old growth forest, or maybe just a tree, I forget! Whatever it was, it was in the mid to late 80s and Gord performed there. Anyhow, the speaker is Canadian, the forest got saved and she was appreciative of Gord being a part of it. That's the connection.
This was one of the best crowds that I have witnessed. Probably largely due to the VERY small venue/high ticket cost. $110 is the most I've ever spent on a concert ticket...ever! The way last night went, I'd do it again tomorrow. There were some real believers there! I didn't hear one comment about how "Gord doesn't sound like....."or, "Is that Gord?, he doesn't look...."
Jesse Joe, as far as your question about how his singing voice is, I really don't know how to access it. It's the modern Lightfoot sound as far as I'm concerned. He's made the necessary adjustments that nicely get him by.
I don't do set lists mostly because there the same from year to year with a few exceptions. I had never heard "If Children Had Wings" live before. That was a treat as was "Ringneck Loon" (I had heard that one live before but not in a while). I didn't expect CRT but he did it and he did it very well. Mentioned something about an ear problem before starting it so he said it might sound weird. To me it sounded like Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
Hung around afterwards, got to say "hey" to Gord and also that I thought his long hair was "way cool". He said it's just for the shows...whatever that meant?
Also got to meet Kimberly and a few others who's names I forget. A GREAT time!
Tony
PS...Terry's solo guitar work was great but it was turned down to low or something.

Re: Who's going to Napa?
THE Gordon Lightfoot SHOW WAS GREAT! Can't honor the man enough for his writing talent. His use of metaphor is brilliant and one I would hope to, in some slight way, emulate in my own writing. He is truly remarkable in volume of pure songwriting talent.
