Lightfoot plans three Texas shows in March
From Staff Reports • February 15, 2009 2:00 am

Buzz up! Veteran Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will perform three times in Texas in early March, in back-to-back shows marking a rare southern foray.

His shows will be March 3 at the Bass Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin, March 4 at the Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie and March 5 at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio. All shows start at 8 p.m.

Lightfoot, now 70, started producing a string of eloquent musical poems, many epic masterpieces that have become enduring standards, from "If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown" and "Early Morning Rain" to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Canadian Railroad Trilogy."

Artists who have recorded Lightfoot's songs range from Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary and Barbara Streisand to Jane's Addiction, Sarah McLachlan and Nanci Griffith.

Lightfoot almost died in 2002 from an acute abdominal aneurysm that left him in a coma for six weeks, but has now fully recovered and continues to tour occasionally with his core band of highly talented acoustic musicians.

Tickets to Lightfoot's March 3 show range from $35 to $55 and are available through the Web site http://utpac.org/event/gordon_lightfoot. Tickets to the March 4 show range from $40 to $60 and are available through the Web site [url]

This is cool sentiment.

There's a wave of good vibes on the rise here. Gotta get down there and have a nice visit to that Austin town. Never been there.

Keep pickin' those tunes Melissa and enjoy the show.

Keep us posted gal and hope to see you and Deny up this Canada way when you can cut it.

High fives, RJ.

Hey there, have a great time and say hi to Denny and the gang

speaking of the gang, I heard your lovely version of ICHW just now from Ed's site! wonderful as usual, Melissa
I too would love to hear it up another whole tone, you've got lots of upper range left

btw, what the name of the folks (gal?) singing Across the Great Divide, superb tone...you and her (for starters) need to hit the road and tour

and amonge a pile of other wonderful renditions, I also enjoyed You've Got a Lover...was just playing an old Skaggs version the other day off a dusty LP...nice arrangement

cheers & don't let Ed ever stop hosting those A1 sessions!

Across The Great Divide was Matt and Deb Carl. The Saturday jam session was a bunch of their friends ("The Guitar League") who meet and play periodically. It was a great time. We played pretty much non-stop from about 1-5, broke for Denny's birthday cake and dinner, then played from about 6-10. There's some really good stuff there:

Ed,I just can't describe to you how good this makes feel (of course I've been eating cookies made with special herbs and spices today) but seeing this post come up with your name there I knew we were in for a real treat.

Being aware of the talent some of these folks have I want to take my time and sit and have a good listen and maybe a few more again to all these tracks.

I haven't forgotten that you were the very first guy I made contact with in order to initiate me into the world of serious Lightfoot fans and you did it with class and it made me feel like a lost soul finding his real family.

Now they're stuck with me and I hope I don't turn them into lost souls.

But we read here from time to time similar stories and with the way things have evolved; the wonderful music, experiences, stories etc. we share it just keeps getting better.

Thanks so much for all you've done.

Cheers, Ron J.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

It has been 85-87 degrees the past 3 days here in Austin. We have a cool front coming in over the weekend. But the forecast for next week is 80-83 degrees and sunny when Gord will be here. Should be nice, spring weather, as usual this time of year.

The radio spots are running frequently, promoting the show. I hear that tickets are selling well. I think Gord and the guys will see a good crowd!

Thanks, Char! After the snow we had in Portland just a few days ago, Austin is a shock, weatherwise. This is my first time here; I'm visiting my cousins whom I haven't seen in 11 years. Gord's bringing us together! Little did I know until a few months ago that they are also his fans. My cousin brought out his Gord's Gold record as soon as we got to their house!

Keep warm Char; hope to see you at a concert very soon!
