New Gord Duet Video
Just checked youtube out, thereis now a video posted with Gord doing a duet with Marilyn McCoo of IFYCRMM. from The TV Show Solid Gold. The video quality is poor, but at least we get to see Gord.
Hope Everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season.
Kevin

Re: New Gord Duet Video
thanks for the headsup and season's greetings to you also
the comment says it's mid-80s....it is 1974, no? great to see this
i remember this series but not the show...gord sounds great...imo, not a friendly key for her, tone-wise (when she takes lead) and not crazy about the harmony choices...i wonder if this was when gord starting concluding, "no more duets" lol
hopefully this appearance sold a few albums (or more like 45's in that day ) and increased USA gord awareness
some of the tags to other duets on that show are a hoot...

Re: New Gord Duet Video
thanks for posting the link so we can see it and not just read about it..
lol
i agree jj- i don't care for her singing in this song at all..it's quite possible it's when Lightfoot said "no more duets!" for sure!
yep - Solid Gold - 1974/..

Re: New Gord Duet Video
Hi guys!! Great topic and greeat discovery too, wow!!
I went to IMDB to see if they had this appearence listed and they did not..... but!!
I have found the date!! The show aired in Syndication on January 14th,1984 as part of the publicity for the "Salute" Lp! Wayne Francis's site lists it as Solid Gold 1983 & a lip synched version of "Salute".
Thanks to TV.com! -------- >

I'm going back to IMDB and adding this in,cool!!

SOLID GOLD (Disco 74) - SYN - 1974
This is an exceptional clip in my opinion. It captures Lightfoot just at the end of his completely acoustic period as far as his live performances were concerned. The next year he adds electric guitar and steel guitar to the lineup and the following year he adds drums. On this occasion he performs Sundown with just his basic trio including Rick and Terry. This is the only time I've ever heard Sundown played with Terry doing the lead on acoustic guitar, with no drums, steel or keyboards. Outstanding! And if that wasn't enough he duets with Marilyn McCoo on If You Could Read My Mind.

Re: New Gord Duet Video
A very young Madonna opens the show with "Holiday" her first major hit. Christopher Cross with his latest release. The Romantics perform "Talking in Your Sleep"(not the GL version, lol). Mariyln & Gordon Lightfoot close the show with a duet.
'84 it is, nice work b...and seasons greetings

Re: New Gord Duet Video
it was also quite neat to see Terry looming large over the duo. I agree with Char about McCoo's solo...but I thought the harmony was pretty good.
I used to watch Solid Gold regularly in it's early years when Andy Gibb hosted. I have no recollection of having seen this duet back then and it would have been unlikely that I would have missed Gordon on TV if I had known. But I was very busy in 1984!

Re: New Gord Duet Video
The only way I could have missed this show was that I had homework to finish or something. '83-'84 was my sophmore year of high school.
I watched Solid Gold just about every chance I got and in the early 80s,I wasn't going around Phoenix on the bus all the time yet on the weekend.
The show always was on Saturdays.

Re: New Gord Duet Video
With a blizzard in progress, I am checking Corfid for the first time in a couple of weeks.
I have this episode of Solid Gold on VHS tape. The quality is better than what I saw on the You Tube clip. The show must have been back in about the 1983 or 1984 period. I was in college at the University of Minnesota at the time. My sister had just undergone major spinal fusion, was homebound, so I was helping her with housecleaning and vacuuming.
She had a brand new VCR at the time, (not something most college students had). I remember taping that Solid Gold show. Immediately after "If You Could Read My Mind" ends, the Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine" begins. Two favorites back to back.
Earlier on Solid Gold, the tape has Gord lip-synching "Sundown" - the album version- in concert style performance with Rick and Terry more subdued in the background. Marilyn McCoo gives the intro as "Some of music's most memorable songs were written by our next guest......." The VHS tape is completely unedited and has all kinds of dancers and muppets mixed in. I think Christopher Cross is also on the program.
Someday I will figure out how to get this VHS tape into DVD format. If anyone wants to help, let me know.
John - Minnesota
