Default Highway of Heroes - slide show

these are pics taken from the vantage point of a person in the cortege that carries our Canadian heroes killed in Afghanistan after repatriation and their journey along Hwy.#401 to Toronto, passing through Durham Region and my town of Whitby, under the Henry St. overpass. This was a cortege of 6 hearses.

This happens every time a soldier comes home..all the way into Toronto.

"Master Warrant Officer (Adjutant a Maitre) Royer of the 12e Regiment blindé du Canada put these photos together . The subtitles are in French but are easily understandable. It documents the transport of some of the Kandahar dead from their arrival in Trenton, Ontario to their destination in Toronto (Coroners office). The spontaneous demonstration of respect by ordinary citizens along the route is amazing.

I've seen this on the news a few times, very moving (touching) pictures Char. Ontario is a great province for doing such things.

A couple of weeks ago at a Maple Leafs Game, The National Anthem was sung by a young man dressed in his military uniform, it's the second time I hear him sing "O Canada" at a Leafs game at The ACC. Im sure you saw it Char and know his name ? And he sure can sing.

Don Cherry is also wonderful about this. It's a stupid war, but you got to support the troops...

I was in Trenton yesterday (by chance, not intentionally planned around the arrival of our, now 100, fallen troops) as I was when our first peacekeepers gave their lives....a moving day/eve, and a moving video clip:

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

My dear Jesse Joe, this is no Stupid War". Regrettably it's all to necessary. The present enemy will not yeild to negotiation or appeasement. Rest assured, our fallen have not died in vain! The Media tends overlook the accomplishments, victories if you will, that have been gained.
No my friend, it may be sad, but not stupid...

All that aside, Thanks for the post Char! It is indeed moving, and yes touching, to see such respect displayed for your heros.

My respect (and fondness) for my Canadian brothers and sisters grows and grows! You've much to be proud of indeed!!!

Being that those who went before us gave us the right and freedom to have an opinion and question the 'why' of any war, I think that we all can say we support those who feel so strongly as to put themselves in harms way regardless of our own thoughts about the war.
Our hearts ache for those families who are living with such grief over the loss of a loved one even as they speak of their pride for the sacrifice they made.
I know I breathed a little easier last week when a young man I've known since kindergarten came home from Afghanistan to his family and young son for Christmas.

The patriot's dream is as old as the sky
It lives in the lust of a cold callous lie
Let's drink to the men who got caught by the chill
Of the patriotic fever and the cold steel that kills

The patriot's dream still lives on today
It makes mothers weep and it makes lovers pray
Let's drink to the men who got caught by the chill
Of the patriotic fever and the cold steel that kills
