Nice piece ... I think by now our Gord must have a pretty good idea of how treasured he and his music are.

Gordon Lightfoot, 70
Von Michael Pilz 17. November 2008, 02:32 Uhr Gordon Lightfoot feiert heute seinen 70. Geburtstag. If You Could Read My Mind").

"The Greatest Love Of All", gesungen von George Benson und von Whitney Houston später, war in 24 Takten mit "If You Could Read My Mind" identisch.

It's not very good, but this is how Google's translator reads it :

Congratulations
Gordon Lightfoot, 70
By Michael Pilz 17th November 2008, 02:32 clock Gordon Lightfoot today celebrates his 70th Birthday. Should that not too much says: The man, the "Early Morning Rain," "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Don Quixote" has written, is 70 years old. Lightfoot has also sung Gassenhauer. But usually they are attributed to the countless performers. Peter, Paul & Mary and the Grateful Dead. Bob Dylan and the Dandy Warhols. Tori Amos, Elvis Presley and Barbara Streisand. Unforgettable bands as Fotheringay ( "The Way I Feel") have been through a Gordon Lightfoot song known. And some took a Lightfoot anthem also farewell to the world, such as Johnny Cash ( "If You Could Read My Mind").

But the Jubilar to Gordon Lightfoot himself: He grew up in Canada to an hour's drive north of Toronto, sang soprano in the church choir and was already Twelve-year-old on stage in the Massey Hall. As the voice lowered, Lightfoot turned in the Folksongs to baritone. The tools he brought with himself. At 20 he took a music degree in California to sing, however, also like before the demonstrators. After the audit he returned to Canada, when wage songwriter.

1965 took him to Bob Dylan's agent, Albert Grossman, under his wing and sent him to Newport to Europe, even in the charts. The unrecognized Folksänger had not only a pleasant voice. Gordon Lightfoot airy arrangements also revealed his taste and subjects besides an alert mind. "Alberta Bound" acted from a homeless girl, the artist during a trip had met. "The Wreck Of The 'Edmund Fitzgerald'" devoted to a disaster on the Great Lakes of North America, including Theodor Fontane would have liked the ballad.

Often, Gordon Lightfoot then himself on plagiarism annoy them. "The Greatest Love Of All," sung by George Benson and Whitney Houston later, was in 24 bars with "If You Could Read My Mind" identical. Last plagued the century-songwriter, however, more physical suffering. Six years ago he was six weeks in a coma with a closed artery. For four years he sings back plates a live-8-Charity joined Gordon Lightfoot also lives in bodily form on. With songs that everyone knows better than him.

Félicitations
Gordon Lightfoot, 70
Qui le dit pas grand-chose: L'homme, le "Early Morning Rain", "If You Could Read My Mind" et "Don Quichotte" qui a écrit, il est 70 ans. Lightfoot a également chanté Gassenhauer. If You Could Read My Mind").

"The Greatest Love Of All", chanté par George Benson et de Whitney Houston plus tard, était à 24 pulsations par "If You Could Read My Mind" identiques.
