Appleton photo from the Aussie traveller
This is my first attempt at posting a photo to a website or forum. The photo is of Gordon & me after his 30Mar2008 concert in Appleton, Wisconsin. If it works, I'll post a couple more photos from that night.

Darn ! I didn't even get the chance to bitch. It was properly displayed in a thumbnail first, and I then decided to enlarge it.
Nice Pic ! That's a heckuva hat. It gave me the itch to adjust my mini-blinds.

Oh dear oh dear I suspect that I am to blaim for the disappearing picture
Paul had asked me in a PM for guidance on displaying a picture here which I was very pleased to provide.
I tried to caution him about the problem posed by megapixel digital cameras which can save very large digital files that need resizing for Forum used and advised him to reduce any to a maximum of 640 wide before uploading to a storage site , and I advised him to use [url=http://www.xemico.com/photogadget/freeware.html]Photgadget]/url] or upload to http://www.imageshack.us and select their optional resizing facility.
In fact he did neither because whilst the picture is certainly at the propertied address revealed by right clicking the red square in a white box at:-
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3734/1730mar08gordonlightfooin6.jpg
opens his picture fine , I think its size caused the forum to give up the struggle if displaying it now.So it has not now "gone"
Because in fact the stored picture is all of 2048 by 1536, and is a fairly large 658KB jpg file (far too large to prevent RM from bitching!!)
I subjected my dial up connnection to getting it but it took ages and when completed the lower roughly 30% of the picure was a grey area I have resized it myself and cropped it to remove the grey part
it is now on my own website so I'll display it myself
TIP Paul and any others tempted to venture into this wonderful word of picture displaying.Do practise first with a much smaller digital picture by using the facility offerred by the Test forum, plus be sure to use the preview facility (if you initially make a complete dog's whatsits of it you can immediately cancel or indeed delete and try again}

Great pic and hat Dave,
And like Char & Joveski asked, Im kind of wondering what Gordon thought of your loyalty to him, from Australia to USA.

Re: Appleton photo from the Aussie traveller
Great picture Dave. I am so glad that you were able to make it. A once in a lifetime trek to show your devotion, I am very impressed. Very nice of Gord to spend some time with you. What a whirlwind trip that was, really happy that you found us before you went and kept us "in the loop".
You did bring gifts home to the family didn't you?

Re: Appleton photo from the Aussie traveller
This time, I'm attempting to post two photos taken outside the Fox Cities Performing Arts Centre, Appleton, Wisconsin, a couple of hours before Gordon's 30Mar2008 concert. Many thanks to ImportedNextSaturday and JohnFowles for helping my first photo into the Discussion Forum. I had forgotten John's advice about reducing the image below the size limit, but when I tried it again with the reduction, it still didn't seem to work. Already this time I'm seeing the red X, so I suspect someone will have to enhance my posting again. The images are stored at the following:
http://img143.imageshack.us/my.php?i...rmingaryz9.jpg
http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?i...tiespacca0.jpg
Some of you asked about Gord's reaction to the swagman hat & to me having travelled from Australia for a concert. I can't add much to what I included in my earlier report. He evidently heard I was coming from Australia & hoping to meet him after the concert. In my brief window of opportunity, I was more interested in hearing his memories of the one Australian tour he did (in 1974), etc. And yes, Brink, I brought gifts home to the family, including Silly Moose t-shirts from New Hampshire. I left the swagman hat with my ex-Melbourne schoolmate in New Hampshire. He's been there 15 years passing the Moose Crossing and Brake For Moose roadsigns & has never seen a moose.

Thank you sincerely INS (is that anything to do with Immigration and Naturalisation??)
well done you have opened my eyes/reminded me to another great recomendation for displaying large pictures to avoid upsetting RM
whilst at the same time overcoming my basic objection to using the forum's upload and basic thumbnail display feature
your imageshack thumbnail
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3...tfooin6.th.jpg
is only 150 by 128 pixels and 4141 bytes but it links to full sized
http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ightfooin6.jpg
which is 647301 bytes and a ginormous 2048 by 1536 pixels
Thus you have three choices if faced with an overlarge picture (whether overlarge in file size , bearing in mind the forum's upload
limit of only 500KB or overlarge in pixel size bearing in mind that the forum will automatically display at a reduced maximum width of 640 pixels but still has to download the full sized file)- resize it yourself using
- resize it yourself using Photgadget
or a freeware image editing program such as Serif's excellent free old version of
Photoplus
- upload it to Imageshack.us
where you have two options providing your jpg file is no larger than 1.53MB (which is pretty generous)

either
1.1.Check the autoresize to 640 wide box
or
1.2.Copy (as INS did) the "forum use" code which will appear after uploading and provides a clickable thumbnail link that when clicked opens the full sized picture
- use the profferred "Manage Attachments" feature to upload your picture (if it is under 500KB that is)
to sum up
1 is nearly always necesary
2 is useful if you want your readers to be able to see the full sized picture in all its gloryand fine detail or as I usually do you wish to place the thumbnail at least in amongst your Pulitzer prize winning text to make a nice illustrated posting
3 is essential if you are going to display a "transient" picture such as one from a deletable ebay auction
I will be adding those points to my "work in progress" displaying pictures tutorial

Re: Appleton photo from the Aussie traveller
Nothing to do with INS. Unlike you Sir John, I am not imported. But when the bulletin board was overhauled, the in your words, "stoopid" bb failed to recognize my original name--or maybe I just forgot my password.
Speaking of imported, does anyone know if Terry Clements changed his citizenship to Canada?
