Default Farewell to 3 Golden Age Stars.

It's been a sad day on the net,in terms of the entertainment world today.

CNN has today reported on the passings of these three diverse stars of yesteryear:

Deborah Kerr, who was most famous for her role of Anna in "The King and I",as well as her infamous crashing waves love scene in "From Here To Eternity". With certainly more movies than I could list here. She passed away Wednesday and was 86.

Teresa Brewer, pre rock era pop singer, who had to have one of the happiest and playful sounding voices of her time. I once saw her on Tv in the 1970s singing,"Put another nickel in,in the nickelodean". "All I want is lovin' you and music, music, music." She was 76.

Last but not least,Comedian Joey Bishop. The last of the infamous Rat Pack. He was discovered by Frank Sinatra and opened many of his shows, which helped him make his name. Unless you count unofficial member Shirley McLaine, they're all gone now. He was 89.

May they rest in peace and never be forgotten,no matter what level of fame.

I remember all three very well B. I was stunned to get online and everytime I went to my home page there was another one listed. How sad and what a loss for everyone. I bet I saw the same show you did with Teresa Brewer, she was also in a movie that I realy like years ago. I used to watch the Joey Bishop show too, I always thought he was cute. Deborah Kerr also played in An Affair to Remember. What a movie. She had a stellar career.

Oh wow - I missed that Teresa Brewer died too. Guess it's bound to happen but somehow I wish they didn't bunch up like that. Pieces of my childhood chipping away (or should I say "fading away"?)

Well,if hyou believe the superstition, these things always happen in 3's.

It reminds me of may of 1990 when Sammy Davis Jr.-Jim Henson and Jill ireland passed away in the same week.

A Few Joey Bishop Remembers:

Two months ago, my cousin Elaine went home to be w/ The Lord. Since 1972 she barbered at The Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, CA. Across the years she cut lotsa "heads" - John Wayne, Buddy Ebson, Earl C. Festoon, and - yes - Joey Bishop!

Thru Elaine, I got to play piano for the occasional party at Joey Bishop's place. He had some good buddies who same pretty well, too, but that's not why they came. After Mr. Daniels [Jack, his friends called him] got insistent, they'd gather round the 88 and sing Barbershop, Sons of the Pioneers, and Ted Weems [Me and My Shadow, I'm Always Chasing Rainbows, My Buddy] Thankfully, Mr. Daniels let the Pianoman sip along.

Joey Bishop woud do a circle in the annual Newport Boat Parade in his pre-Regis years. A bit more formalities onboard, due to Execs, etc. Still quite a Gig.

My favorite remembers are seeing John Wayne, Buddy Ebson, and [of course] Joey Bishop greet the folks going by in water craft. I had me a little $12 K-Mart inflatable boat w/ oars. My three then-little boys and I would row by for one of Joey's patented Razz-Berry - as big a Razz-Berry as Allowed by Law. My kids and I loved it. But, they didn't know from Joey Bishop. They were into Jed Clampett.

Pastor Chico Holiday [Calvary Chapel Yorba Linda] was a Vegas entertainer in those halcyon Rat Pack days. He played in Dino's Den at the Flamingo. When the Rats came in, the public had to leave. So, Chico would play only to the real Ocean's 11 guys. Outside of the fine Gig, Chico and wife Sally got to tell each Rat about The Lord. All were courteous, but Sammy Davis was extremely interested. Where it all went . . . who knows. Fine Gig for Chico, nonetheless.

Thanks Elaine - see ya' at Home

Rex

The one film that i still remember Deborah Kerr for was The King & I. Up against Yul Brynners King, she was perfect, as she wouldn't back down. Her Anna knew how to get in his face & stare him down, and in the end, the king, in his own way had to admit that he admired & respected the lady. I have always thought that it was an all time classic.
