The Pretenders (they do deserve it).
Buddy Guy
J. Geils Band (Ohh-kaaay.)
Conway Twitty (?)!
Percy Sledge (name another of his hits,I challenge you!)
Sex Pistols (no comment)
The Stooges (Iggy Pop's old band)
Lynard Skynard (we're waaaaaiting!)
and the late Gram Parsons formerly of The Byrds.

I'm going to the R&R Hall of fame site itself and see if there were more considered. Later!

Amazing. I didn't know R&R knew who Buddy Guy was even, let alone a nomination.

And Conway Twitty was a country legend with more #1 songs on the pop and country charts than any artist to date.

Hi Violet! Oh,I know who Conway Twitty is (and or was). I was just surprised that it took this long! I thought he had already been inducted. Guess I need to double-check my lists at home.

I also didn't think of Buddy Guy as having any kind of great enough prestige to even be a blip on the hall's "radar". Still,we all know we'd rather see GL's name in there,at the top of the list.

Conway Twitty started as R&R artist, and did very well. He was also one the first major artists to encourage the crossing over of music styles, rock to the country charts, country to the rock charts etc. Patsy Cline is another who comes to mind.

Well, yeah, I'd rather see Lightfoot on the list, that goes without saying, but Buddy Guy has been around forever and played with everyone from Muddy Waters on. He's got several Grammys and an entire shelf of Handy awards. He also puts on a hell of a show. You gotta see him live sometime.

When is the best selling duo of all time with 6 #1 hits, many top ten/forty hits and over 60,000 million records sold who are still putting out quality music going to get their nod for a nom? I am talking about Daryl Hall and John Oates. Love them or hate them, they put out great music, write and produce their own stuff and lets not forget play their own instruments. It is shame that they get overlooked year after year.

I agree! Percy Sledge,Hall & Oates and so many many more could already be in,if it weren't for their ridiculuos "vote in" process!

There are several acts that have been around well over the 25 year mark that deserve it. I'd be willing to bet that in 2006 "U2" will be put in right away. I love U2 but I think even they'd like to see older acts get in before themselves!

The final vote is either this month or January for 2005. If we really want Gord in,we have to start an online petition to get his name to the voters at the "Hall".

I don't know how you do that but if anyone knows,please give it a go. LaterZ!

Hi all! I've an hour before I go to work and I just had to drop in with this news!

12/13/2004:Hall Of Fame Inductees announced today (and I can't believe these are the only selcetions amongst the vast # of possibilities!!)

1. Percy Sledge - "When A Man Loves A Woman & a few more hits. I guess if he wasn't part of the Stax legacy he might not have made it but "When".. has become a timeless classic.

2.Buddy Guy - Great Blues guitarist,nothing more to say there.

3.The O'Jays -"Love Train","For The Love Of Money","Back Stabbers" etc.!
About blessed time!!!

4.The Pretenders and or Chrissie Hynde-They deserve it.
"Brass In Pocket(I'm Special)","Back On The Chain Gang","Middle Of The Road","Show Me","Don't Get Me Wrong","I'll Stand By You","Hymn To Her".
I've thought so for sometime but they didn't qualify until now or else last year.

5. You wont believe it....incredible legends from the 60's & 70's that still have not been inducted and which band gets the nod?

"U2!" Now,don't get me wrong (as The Pretenders would say)
I love U2 & I know I said no arguement from me but even they themselves said they were in no hurry to be inducted.
I honestly believe they deserve it but so many others do that are not getting any younger!

Possibly nudged to vote for them by their 2 most recent SNL appearances,I see this "vote" as a transperent attempt to make the awards show "young viewer" freindly!
Is the panel at The R&R H.O.F. so afraid to vote in older acts just to please the people at VH 1 and their demographic,that they'll keep The Moody Blues,Lynard Skynard,Procol Harum,ELO,KISS,Heart and (in my opinion)The Grass Roots & Gordon Lightfoot shut out for yet another year? Come on!

Again,no bad will to the inductees,they're great too but next year,I want to see the ones that have been waiting! Like last year's class,if you please! It's been me and yes,I'm still going to watch. March 15th folks! Later!

I don't mean to disagree with you, B, 'cause I want Gord to get all the recognition he deserves as well, but when I think Gordon Lightfoot, I just don't think "Rock 'n' Roll" - there are plenty of more appropriate honors to bestow upon him than induction into the R&R Hall of Fame. But than again, what do I know

Young? I'd be surprised if Bono didn't come out on stage with a walker. Those guys are nearly ancient. Though not approaching a Keith Richard like, pickled in alcohol status, U2 released it's first CD in what, the 80's? They've been at it over 20 years. They're way closer to my generation than to the "younger" generation.

He should be in the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame.

At the risk of getting caught on this PC...Violet,even though U2 released their 1st album in 1980,they have continued to get fans that are younger. People who were born when I was a kid or in high school or even after that!

Besides,as stated above,U2 will draw an audience to the show. Young & old fans alike!

And some of their CDs were recorded at Grant Avenue. Daniel Lanois produced them. I remember seeing several of their gold records on the walls when I was up there... errr... down there... over and down there... whatever... over and out.

There are so many who deserve to be inducted; one example, (please don't throw rotten fruit) is Meat Loaf (a great performer who used to have a terrific voice)and can sing Jim Steinman songs like nobody else. "Bat Out of Hell" "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights"?

Just playin'! Air Supply and Bonnie Tyler did so in '83. Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" was better than
"Total Eclipse Of the Heart". That song made me wanna "gag" !!

...but imagine what M.L. would have done with those!

I know a small number of Rock Critics who cast ballots each year. They agonize over their choices, especially since there are so many worthy candidates.

Perhaps the biggest problem is that Rock is still relatively young (about 50) and has a lineage that's pretty traceable to a serious student of such things.

An artist becomes eligible 25yrs after their first release. Often that first release is the only one folks know (as in the question of Percy Sledge,) or not widely known (ala Buddy Guy.)

What the critics I know rassle w/ is not who had more hit records or more popular, but who had more influence on the growth of the music. Percy Sledge and Buddy Guy fit. So do the others. And so do a lot of folks who probably won't ever get in.

In the beginning of the Hall it was easier -honoring the pioneers. It's gettin' harder now.

I'd like to think the "Board" doesn't worry about TV ratings, but that would be naive'.
I figure those who ballot take it seriously.
After all, it's not a Dick Clark Production.

Bobby Vinton had a bunch of hits, Bobby Goldsboro had a bunch of hits, Bobby Vee had a bunch of hits, Bobby Sherman had a bunch of hits, but Bobby Darin - he moved the music forward.

It is my supreme hope the Hall doesn't turn into a popularity contest. However . . .
