Hey! Hey! Forget Chuckie baby! It's your host,Border Baby! Welcome to Small Talk's Gong Show!
The show where we don't give the Gong to new acts but to old ones. Not only that,we slam the hammer down on their songs too!
I'll get the Gong going with my picks!
"Always" by Atlantic Starr 1987! GONG! Overly sticky sweet nauseating mush!
"Season's In The Sun"-Terry Jacks 1974! GONG! Only to be played when watching chick flicks when someone kicks the bucket! (A little harsh I know but this is Border Baby not Borderstone!)
"Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro 1968! GONG! A combination of the above two featuring the classicly insipidd line,"She wrecked the car and she was sad,& she thought that I'd be mad...but what the heck!" Honey wrecks the car and he's okay with that? Whatever!
Last one! "Hi My Name Is...." - Eminem 1999!
GONG! Aaaaaaaaaannnnnnoooooooyyyyyiiiing! Period! Been me,later! & Thanks for playing our game!

Borderstone: I agree with the MnM GONG! Some of his songs have a good beat, but I find you just get tired of his negative lyrics. I hear people say... wow man hes singing about his life...wow isnt that cool...wow man, look at what he went through! We have all had our bad times, but we dont go out and annoy the world. And as for his buddy Michael Jackson...well thats another story (actually, I dont know what to think about Jacko...it looks pretty bad for him, and people blindly praise him, and blindly point the finger at him, but who really knows).

I had better make it clear though, that I wouldn't gong Micheal Jackson's music carreer...just the way he has handled his personal life. Despite his personal life, he has performed some incredible live performances, and has some great tunes to dance to and get the heart thumping. And Finally...A big GONG to all those performers that try to overdo the national anthems at sporting events. Sing the song like it was meant to be sung, add a very tiny bit of your own personal flare to it if you must... then end it!

The Beatles were and still are "the" influence. Every good rockin' act of the '60s & 70s looked up to them as great innovators. Not only that, they gave Rock and Roll a good swift kickstart when it needed it most. (Nothing personal to the Beach Boys or the Four Seasons & a few others.)
20 #1 hits in just 6 years? 52 top 40 hits overall?
Every member had a good to great solo career?
Nearly billions of fans all over the world and even a lot of today's young generation are getting into them?
The first act to really get to write & record their own material?
Overrated? Puh-lease! Do you have proof they're overrated or is this just a free form opinion?
Not trying to bug you Watchman but (GONG!) I just don't think that statement really holds water. I know everyone can't like the same things but as far as the Beatles place in music...there'll never be another rock group phenomenon like that again. Been me,later!

OUCH! I'm sure you could have thought a lot
of other songs to "gong". It sounds like
you just don't like these Beatle songs.
Why not anything by New kids on the block
or N Sync or kung-fu fighting or Celine Dion.
Why gong a pretty song like "Here comes the sun"? Just curious.

John F. mentions a "worst song poll in "Rock and Roll 50". So I thought I'd bring this back up.

Even typing about this makes me gnash my teeth....
I nominate “Perfect” by Fairground Attraction.(circa 1988.)
One suspects the excruciatingly misnamed “ Fairground Attraction” would consider public beheadings at the top of the list of said attractions.
In this dirge’s tortuous search for a coupling in the chorus we are treated to :
"It's got to be-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e perfect,
It's got to be- e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e worth it “
The song then has the gall in the chorus to claim
“Too many people settle for second best,
Well I won’t settle for anything less
Its got be- e-e-e-e-e-e-e (yeah!) perfect !!!”
(For God ‘s sake you just settled for way worse than second best in your chorus you morons!!!)
Lyrically the chorus would not score well in a junior school test for 8 year olds…...

May I humbly submit the entire catalogue of songs by a certain Artificial Soul singer.
Each CD is worth the purchase, if only for the purpose of providing Skeet targets.
I refer, (insert anquished fanfare here) to:
Michael Bolton.
The Rez
. . . Oh, the pain.

. . . and a special 3 headed statuet made enitrely of the finest radiator pipe, upon which Tony awaited the 3 knocks of Dawn Orlando, while attempting to fit an old oak tree into a previously knotted yellow ribbon left over from the neck of young cavalryman Harry Carry, Jr., all the while checking his sweet-bug zapper for the Gypsy Moth he'd named Rose, lest she meet the ultimately fate of Tony and Dawn Orlando awaiting the Willy-of-Boxcar Expiditon, commissioned by the Osmond-of-DonnieBro in search of the lost fabled city of Missori-by-the Branson.
Whew . . .
