I think this was answered once before, but I can't find it now. I no longer get lit lightbulbs indicating new posts in the forum, and unread post topics are no longer in red, when I come here anymore. Is the light no longer on for me? Have I been away too long? Sob!
I think it had to do with my HTML preferences or something. But I have never made any changes! Help! These features are handy and I want 'em back!

Ok, so now I get the lit lightbulb and the red colored file. Did it have to do with posting a topic and therefore "activating" things? But it is only at Smalltalk, not the GL forum yet. Any thoughts?

Hi Judy,

The only time I get the "light bulbs" is when I modify my profile. I don't know why that is...and, after awhile, the lightbulbs go away...don't know why THAT is, either! Probably not very helpful info, but it's what I've noticed.

Judy, you might try resetting your preferences.
Up top, close to the right side, click on the word preferences. Once that opens, you'll see highlighted in yellow something like this (I don't remember the exact wording): Click here to delete cookies from this group
Then reset your preferences. It will ask you if you want to save your name and password, so you don't have to type them in every time you post. Then it will ask you how many days worth of messages you want to store. After setting those, go to the bottom and click submit preferences. I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try.

That may work but when you delete cookies from this site, you will get no bulbs your first time back to the forum. The cookies are stored on your computer which remembers the last time you visited, hence the red folders and lit bulbs.

I wonder if you have firewall protection and if so, you may have it set where it will not allow any cookies to be stored. You can change that as well in your firewall settings.

The best thing to do is check and make sure that cookies are activated in your preferences in this forum as well as your computer. If so, clear your cache memory. Sometimes computers are set to refresh each time you visit a site and other times they aren't. You will want to set your web browser to automatically refresh each time the page is loaded.

Try posting a message and then go to another site and then visit this forum again. You should see a yellow light this time. If not, hit your refresh button on your browser and the yellow light should work. If it does, then your know what the problem was and then you need to clear your cache memory and double check your refresh preferences as well as your cookie settings.

Just remember that once you delete all cookies and clear the cache memory, you will not see the bulbs. You will the next time you visit, provided that cookies are enables on the forum and your computer. Good luck.

Thanks, all! Watchman, I think you've solved it. Every day I delete cookies, temp. internet files, and history, as I "tune in" at work and want to erase evidence that I do so. No wonder the bulbs aren't yellow and the files red anymore!
BTW, is there any other precaution I should take other than the above?

Sometimes, all the red are lit when I log on and sometimes they're all yellow. That makes it just slightly tougher to tell who's responded to what. Then again, all I have to do is go down each topic and check the date of the lost time someone posted.
