Does anybody in this forum know if the CD "Waiting For You" is still available. I have tried for a long time to get it, but here in Norway it is impossible. Is it out of stock? Thank you for trying to help me.

Welcome to the board Daniel. Nice to see another Scandinavian posting here after the recent topic on Swedes reading this Forum, including David Bradford who posts here as djb who is a native of Gord's hometown Orillia. Sorry to say it is a shameful fact that Warner-Reprise/Rhino have let WFY become out of print.
But do not despair there is usually (but as luck would have it not at this moment) at least one new sealed copy up for auction on ebay
Try this link
http://www.ebaylightfoot.shorturl.com
which takes you straight to the current listings of Lighfoot stuff sorted newest first so if you check everyday you should soon see a copy quite how you will pay a Dollar price in Kroner I have no idea but the shipping charge should not be horrendous

Sometimes you can get a copy via Amazon.com - I got a gently used copy recently for $11.48 including shipping.

Thank you for your information. I'm very pleased to have found this Gordon Lightfoot site. I have been an admirer of Lightfoot since 1975, when I first heard the album "Cold On The Shoulder". Thank you again.

Welcome to our family, Daniel! As you can see, ANY question about Gord is quickly answered by someone here. They all have so much knowledge and you will have a great time "discussing" topics. Make sure you visit "Small Talk" if you want to read, or discuss other topics than Gord.
Tell us about where you live. We had a thread where everyone told where they were and it was great!
Welcome!
Sean

musically best known to European viewers as the perennial receiver of null points in the Eurovision Song Contest (Ah Ha notwithstanding!!)
Here are some Norwegian jokes for your pleasure:
- How do you sink a Norwegian submarine?
- Dive down and knock at the door. Then they'll open the door and ask what you want!
- How do you sink a Norwegian submarine again?
- Dive down and knock at the door. Then they'll open the door and say: "You can't fool us again!"
- How do you sink a Danish submarine?
- Dive down and knock at the door. Then they'll open a window and say: "We're not as stupid as the Norwegians!"
- How do you sink a Swedish submarine?
- Give it a Norwegian crew!
Perhaps if Daniel will say where we can find it on this fine map which also shows Uppsala in Sweden where Orillian David
Bradford (djb) resides

Sorry Daniel I saw that jokes page while searching google images for a suitable Norwegian
picture and my Brit humo(u)r could not resist it. If I offended you I am sorry and to make
it up I will display this nice Norwegian picture. I guess this is where some of the trolls
come from eh?!
Do you know where that is??
Norway is one of the few European countries I have never visited (Although I did think of skiing there one year)

Well, well JohnFowles, I am not that easy to offend. What would the world be without jokes and humour. I didn't know that the Eurovision contest was so popular in Canada.
I suppose you're Canadian. In Norway a lot of people consider this competition just as a joke and don't watch it. I don't want to defend this contest, but in fact, Norway have won twice. Who cares if they win or lose. Your jokes was quite funny.
The mountain picture I guess is taken on the west coast of Norway. I live in a small town - about 28 000 inhabitants - between Oslo and Lillehammer. The name of the town is Hamar, and it is not shown on your map.

Hi Daniel,
Our John is an Americanized British fellow.
Actually Daniel I am as Laurel pointed out a Brit. But at the moment I boast two passports;my native one (now a uniform European burgandy not the traditional dark blue)in which my queen requests my free passage around the world; and also a Canadian one that I obtained as an "insurance" in 2000 having been made a citizen after 5 years in Canada in 1969. I am now in the queue waitng for the BCIS here to be quite certain I have no criminal record. ( strange that because if I had I'd have gone to Australia because they love British crinimals there!!) then I hope to complete my collection with an Uncle Sam passport. Regarding Eurovision largely due to the humo(u)r of my favo(u(rite UK DJ the wonderful Irishman Terry Wogan the annual ritual is very much a joke in the UK despite that marvellous ooccasion in Brighton in 1972 when ABBA burst upon an unsuspecting world. That was a marvellous surprise and I was most pleased to recently acquire a video file of their rousing "Waterloo"
Canadians should be well aware of Eurovision because their famous chanteuse Celine Dion who long before she single-handedly sank the Titanic "took up residency in Switzerland, which allowed her to represent that country, and she won the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest."
I also noted that one of Norway's recent wins was due to the Irish winner of the previous year singing for Norway in a ruse allegedly designed to relieve the Irish television company of the expense of hosting yert another contest!
Now Daniel I must admit to misreading Sean's query (I thought he was asking where you were but I now realise he asked you to tell us about Norway)
For starters what do you do there and how did you become a Lightfoot fan??

And another suggestion:-
This was posted on the Newsgroup yesterday
"Microsoft's new music service is in preview mode. This service is
designed to compete with Apple iTunes and the main difference between
the two services is that Microsoft's service is web-based whereas
iTunes requires a separate download. I still prefer iTunes, but noticed
that when you conduct a search on Music Service, sponsored links appear
which are related in some way to the search term (just like on Google).
I did a search on Lightfoot's catalog and came up with the following
page, including the sponsored links.
http://beta.music.msn.com/search/all/?ss=gordon+lightfoot"
If you click on that link then on
"View All Gordon Lightfoot Albums"
the following should appear
Note the lack of enthousiasm (so far) for the Beautiful tribute album!!
It lists 16 albums including WFY but inexplicably not Harmony but you can download WFY as a complete album for only $8.91
or 99 cents for each of the 10 tracks
check out the "customer service" link at the bottom of the page for guidance with what to do with your downloads: However I would thatassume you get good quality mp3s that can then be burned into a pukka audio CD (providing you have a CD burner of course and suitable software
example Nero Burning/Express makes great CDs from mp3s. (I have found that CD quality mp3s i.e. encoded at 128 KBPS work superbly

Only to happy to oblige and I've just found another source
It looks like Waiting For You might still possibly available as an import (from Japan) of all places. See current ebay auction:- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...037860343&rd=1
All you gotta do then is to learn to read Japanese!!
This info just might help!
"Japanese has two kinds of alphabet, Hiragana and Katakana. Hiragana is used when we have no
Japanese characters (Kanji) for the words or we don't remember the right Kanji. Katakana is
used mainly for foreign names." (Goldon Rightfoot)??
Basically, Japanese has only five vowels, a, i, u, e, o. In connection with consonants, k, s, t, n, h (or f) m, y, we have 48 alphabet."
For the above I am indebted to:- http://www.harapan.co.jp/english/japan/hiragana.htm

Thank you John for trying to help me to find the CD "Waiting For You". I have had some balls in the air in my struggle to get the CD, and luckily a friend of mine in the USA, some days ago sent me the CD. I was so taken by surprise, that I just had to celebrate the event. Thank you once more John

Welcome to the site! We are glad to have you.
I was wondering if you were familiar with an excellent band in Norway called Slåbrock?
Thanks

Thank you talbot10! No, I haven't until you asked about it. The band do have a home address. You just search on Slåbrock, and you will find it. According to the band's home address, it is a quite popular dance orchestra.
