Okay Folks,
This one stretches credibility a bit but who cares...

Gord is to perform a gig in your town and he's ACCEPTED your invitation to stay at your house for the weekend!

What would you do to make it a special weekend and make him feel at home?

I'd drape the Canadian flag outside my home.
Get in lots of Maple syrup for goodies...eh LAMS.
Take him to the local Pub.For an orange juice of course...

BUT WHAT WOULD WE TALK ABOUT .
I wonder......

Frank.

I always have the flag outside my home and I always have homemade maple syrup from Orillia in the fridge so I am ready with that stuff! Hmmmmm...well I couldn't take him to the big city like we usually do with other visitors - so I would take him around my little town and show him some of the historical sites, some of which mesh with the history of his hometown. We'd come back for a swim and a bar b.q., watch the Blue Jays on the T.V., talk about the French/English problems in Canada, the myriad of problems in the health and education systems in Ontario and if he wanted he could recount some stories of his times with Kristofferson, Ronnie Hawkins, James Taylor, John Denver, Harry Chapin, Robert Markle and the rest of the gang. We would laugh over old photos I have taken from his Massey concerts over 25 years and maybe, just maybe he could pick a couple of tunes for us and show my son what real talent is all about!
When he left I would then get back in my body and carry on with my life with a feeling of having spent time with greatness and being very blessed.

Char,
Thats inspirational!
I'm trying very hard not to be too curious.
Maybe I could ask one small question.
What are the 'Blue Jays'?

Frank.

Sorry Frank, I refuse to put in print what I would plan to make it a special time for Gord.

Well SH, I've already said I'm trying hard not to be too curious.Because as you know, I'm a gentleman...
But you've got to do a bit better than that!
I mean, for example would you purchase some Canadian delicacies at the local sainsburys...LOL

Frank, Silver Heels,
Don't surround him with things Canadian - you'll just make him homesick and he'll leave early. Just give him lots of British hospitality. He would soon realise what he's been missing for the last nineteen years. To make him feel at home - I'd just act naturally - oh yeah. But I would let him have a play on my guitar.

Whatever you do, don't give him our version of Maple Syrup. That would sure drive him away forever. I've tried both. No comparison.

I LOVE the baseball!!
THAT's who the Blue Jays are!!
Gord loves the hockey too - Toronto Maple Leafs!!! (named my son after one of their captains!!)

First of all, if Gord was coming to my house, I'd have to take a month off from work just to clean it up! (lol) It'd take me that long just to get all the dust bunnies out from under beds and in closets. Then when he arrived, I'd have a tall glass of sweetened iced tea with a sprig of mint in it waiting on him. He'd probably expect that kind of southern hospitality from me. Then I'd have to crank up the A/C a bit cause he's not used to all the heat and humidity- I can't have him melting on me (hush, Char, LAMS, Erica . . . you know what I meant!).
Then after he'd caught his breath, I'd show him our version of Mt. Rushmore; Stone Mountain, and perhaps a few other sites around town. Then I'd take him to work and show him around the place . . . perhaps talk him into an impromptu mini-concert for my co-workers, and myself naturally. Then I'd take him to Longhorns, and with a bunch of my friends, we'd just shoot the breezel and eat the best steak in town!

We'd sit around and talk about his music, music in general. Then have him teach me a few chords, sing a little. Then we'd all go out for Thai Food. Then we'd come back & watch JAWS on dvd & eat microwave popcorn.

P.S. We only have two bedrooms so he'd have to sleep on the couch.

Painter,
Thats a good strategy. No CRT or Alberta Bound or talk of those lovely mountains and lakes back home.

Char,
I was 80% sure. The other 20? A comedy show or an unknown pop group. Thats the European in me.

Mary Ann thats quite an action packed weekend
Do you think he'll have any energy left for the gig?.(Just joking...)

Tom,
He probably needs a break from all the SHARKS in his life...

Frank.

I'd take him to places and show him things
he's never had the time to see before. I'd
ask him what he was in the mood for, because there's lots to see and do where I live. I
always feel like I'm on vacation here and it's so beautiful.

Now, I remember his favorite movie for awhile was "Crocodile Dundee" (LOL) but I don't know if he likes Star Trek. I don't,
hubby does and volunteers to do security at
conventions sometimes. Crowds of 10,000+.
The only reason this comes to mind is because then I'd dress him up in Klingon
disguise and just let him run with it. When
was the last time he was out for the whole day and just got to be an ordinary person?
Of course, this would only be if he likes Star Trek and I can't imagine that for some reason.

We'd probably end up doing something by the
ocean in some historic, romantic place. My husband would come along, too. We'd have to eat out as I can only make 5 or 6 kinds of toast. Can someone send me the recipe for strawberry jello? I only know how to make lime. thank you in advance.

ps. if his family was along I'd probably have
my husband take him to the NASCAR races and I'd see what Elizabeth and the children felt
like doing.

Here's a good one that needs futher exploration.

If Gord (like in that dream I had) came to my home? I'd give him my bed and sleep on the sofa.

He could probably teach me to play an acoustic but only if he offered first. Hopefully, without being obvious about it,I could have him read my lyrics.

I'd insist on cooking and as for what we'd talk about. Most likely music, literature and views on life in general.

Lastly,he could autograph one LP a day!! :D LOL!

Assuming he'd arrive on a Friday afternoon, the first thing I'd do when he pulled into my driveway, is go out to greet him, his family and his band, then I would wrap my arms around him in a warm and loving hug, give him a peck on the cheek, look into his eyes and tell him a heartfelt "thank you."

Next, I'd invite him into my house, have his bags brought into the spare bedroom, and ask him to have a seat in my favorite recliner. I'd give him the beverage of his choice and just let him unwind for as long as he would like. On Saturday, I would serve a simple breakfast consisting of fruit, muffins, coffee & juice. I would have a couple of ideas in mind to take him out into the great outdoors in the late morning or early afternoon, perhaps taking a stroll through the woods, a boat ride on the river, or just a drive down country roads looking for Bald Eagles, turkeys and deer. One thing I would not do, is ask him a bunch of questions about his life, career, songs, etc. Mainly, I would just try to make him as comfortable and at-ease as I possibly could. I would hope that when he left on Sunday morning after the concert, that he would have a few memories of a relaxing, enjoyable, and rejuvenating weekend, and the feeling that even though he was not at home, that he was with family.

I'd buy a bunch of goodies and when he got here, I'd let him raid the kitchen and let him and the band pig out. (That's what I'd want if I were over at someone's house :D )

I'd show him the music that my friend and I had written and see if he had any advice on how to develop ideas/make the songs better.

I'd offer him some drinks and some snacks and we'd talk music in general.

We'd take a walk around my block and show him around... I'm in the country, so there would be lots of peace.

We'd have dinner at my nhouse and he would be more than welcome to stay in the guest room.

That's all I can think of right now.

Well after he got all settled in I might invite him to go for a walk and unwind a bit on one of my favorite trails: an old beautiful country road that takes us through the woods with an incredible view of the deep ravines and creeks that are all over the far sw burbs of Chicago, or perhaps one of the other many picturesque trails that encircle a small lake.

I'm not the best cook in the world, but Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs is known for having some of the best food in the world, so I might opt to take him to a great steak house or italian restaurant. Maybe the italian would be better, since I read in an interview somewhere he likes pasta! :D

If for some amazing reason Gord came to my house. I would ask him if I could ask a few questions. I would like his perspective on how "The Circle is Small" came to be. That is a song that is universal. I would like to know what he going through when he wrote it. I would also like to ask some silly things, like what is his fav. color. Things of that ature. And most of all I would like to know how he deals and feels since his anneursym. He and I both had one rupture, his aortic and mine in my brain. It is not exactly water cooler talk, and to hear his feelings on being a survivor. His music truly was all I listened to during my healing time. I would like for him to know how grateful I am for his words. So I guess we would just rap for awhile if he was into it.
