My favourite is still "End of all Time". Amazingly, I have converted a friend and my brother onto Gordon after playing this song, on a recent holiday. Not only that, but they are into a few other songs from "Harmony", and have now both borrowed the CD!

i dont know if you are able to catch Gord's intro on The No Hotel, but it goes like this:

"In 1989 I was in Menowus, with a party of tree huggers, down with Dr. David Suzuky and we were to meet up with Sting, on the Shangoo River which is a tribunetary of the Amazon. I had to take a guy out into the Suburbs of Menowus, which is a city of about 1 and a half milloin people about half way up the Amazon River. Got there at about 4:00 in the morning to the Nobo Hotel. And when I got there, I noticed that 2 of the letters in the name of the hotel were burned out. And the name of the sign, it was just like 'The No Hotel'. That stuck with me as a song title in the number of years which ensued and about 3 months ago, I finished the song. It's called "The No Hotel". uh dee dee duh (launches into song)"

I like Harmony the best on the album. The No Hotel and River Of Light are also really good!

I like to listen to Couchiching because it's not so immediately "accessible" as they say, so I like to imagine what Gord was thinking about and aiming for with this composition...and I love Clouds of Loneliness too

Nrearly there Sidney.
But it is actually

Manaus
and the tributary is the Xingu river.
Not only that but Gord was with Sting in a party of treehunters (as I hear it anyway) led by

David Suzuki
But having checked maps of the Amazon Valley I still do not understand why they ended up in Manaus which looks a great distance from the Xingu. Just maybe I'll get a chance to ask the man himself on that point!

River of Light "hit" me the first time I heard it and it's still my favourite. Like Joweski says - "Can't get enough of it."
To me, it speaks of his optimism for the future.
It's also a bloody good tune!

River Of Light and Shellfish are my two faves on the album, and will easily stay in my top ten or fifteen GL songs for a looooong time to come.

That's one heck of an accomplishment, since my favourites tend to change on a daily basis!

I love what you said about Shellfish, Patti-you keep it wrapped around your heart. I, too, have found it to be the perfect tonic to sadness, defeatism: do not be down-hearted, there's still a ways to go, etc. I sing along and feel strong and great!

Inspiration Lady really touched me as well as Harmony. Both are such marverlous pieces of songwriting.
I hope we remember these as all as possible. Truly a wonderful Canadian Gordie Lightfoot.
