I'm sure someone has mentioned 'May I'. It's really the only song I seriously consider skipping. It's terribly annoying.
I really love A Lesson In Love. "Songs of the season/Apples of the sun/There is no rhyme or reason/Just a time for each and every one"
I think that's beautiful and anything but trite. Neither the sentiment nor the articulation are stock lyrics.
Listen to the radio and the "I can't live without your love" lyrics and tell me he's not a true poet.

Being a huge Gord fan, there is only one song I truly do NOT like--The Auctioneer. I love Canary Yellow Canoe, though!

My two least favorites are In My Fashion and Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
The "slide rule" rap in In My Fashion is very... hokey.

Kinda funny because I recently made a 90-minute cassette of my favorite GL songs and "In My Fashion" and "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" both made the tape.
Songs I don't like are:
On Yonge Street
Fading Away
You Just Gotta Be
May I
and Half the Endless Wire album:
Sweet Guinevere
Hangdog Hotel Room
If There's A Reason
Songs the Minstrel Sang
Sometimes I Don't Mind
I have often said that if GL had followed "Summertime Dream" with "Shadows", his fame and legacy would have been known to far more people. But genius doesn't work on an assembly line.
To me, Endless Wire is the only GL album I would not take a desert island because with "Greatest Hits", Daylight Katy and The Circle is Small are now represented.

"something very special", always skip over it, also "fine as fine can be", too slow, and "never say trust me"

(i was going through some old threads, and came upon this one. hope i'm not offending anyone by bringing it back up )
i've never really cared for now and then. too slow, too boring. knotty pine and lifeline seem to get the skip button as well.
usually when i don't like a song, its not because its annoying or has got a bad tune, its because its too boring. I don't think i've came across a song yet that was a pain to listen to.

The worst GL song ever is "Anything for Love." Just not him. Over-produced and too 80s.
Other "skippable" songs:
Half of "Endless Wire"
May I
My Pony Won't Go
No Mistake About It
Both "Bells" songs rock.
Ode to Big Blue rocks.
This is a worthy topic, just to see what reflections of Gord's style appeal to his fans.
There's my two cents =)

It would have to be "Coochaching" whose locale no doubt means something to Gord, but lyrics, (not to mention melody) fall short of being what I would consider to be in the quality of a "Lightfoot tune". (Gord, what were you thinking???)
...and if you're from the area, bless you, keep it close to your heart, (and far away from the stage!)

Lovely to read DMD3's comments again whilst browsing this topic! I Think "May I" is fun, but probably the least indispensable Gord song I can think of!

I never liked "A Lesson in Love" for the above-mentioned reasons. I always skip "Bitter Green"
"Affair on 8th ave" and most of the slow break-up songs. But the tunes are so listenable that it's hard to pick a real klunker. I usually skip "Last time I saw her" which makes me cry.

I'd have to say "Canary Yellow Canoe." Sometimes I wonder if GL really wrote it -- or why he would claim it if he did. But this is the only song of his I actually dislike.

I reach for the "kill" button when " Beautiful" comes on. Lyrically it is just one loooooong suckup... Vomit inducing and a cynical play at romantically inclined (and easily conned ) women.
Any bloke who would talk like that to his lady has clearly had a pride (and honesty) bypass...
Gee just when I thought my popularity on Corfid could not get lower I have found a new way to send it plummeting.....(lol) :D

My least favorite GL songs would have to be 'May I?' and "Too Many Clues in This Room'. In my opinion he could sing the phone book and make it sound lyrical.
Steve Sydney or is it Sydney Steve? The song 'Beautiful' is not only for 'easily conned' women (there are many of us - no shame there) but any woman who relishes a man seeing her the way that song does. As for a man w/any pride singing that song to a woman - Are you suggesting GL has no pride? Can't a man w/ pride express the fact that he finds a woman beautiful'? Have you never seen/met/loved a woman that you found 'Beautiful'?

I will always love the song,"Beautiful" and I think it should have been a #1 pop hit! One song i really have a touch of difficulty sitting through is,"Protocol". I understand it okay and I don't "skip" it but,it's just not that easy to get "into".

Ophelia, I have to agree with you on that one. I can't imagine why Gord would record that song. (Canary Yellow Canoe). <shudder>
Steve, again, you crack me up. But, that's o.k. I love ya anyway! However, I'm one of those easily-conned women. I just suck it up! Ladies, all those of you who go into the vapors listening to Beautiful, raise your hand!
