She walks be the sea where the seaworld is
And she waits for the man to come
She lives in town with her high-heeled friends
And she knows it's a long way down
But she doesn't have to get up in the morning
With her hair so soft and long
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home
She walks to the sea where the seaweed is
Where the rust and the dirt runs deep
She lives nine lives in her midnight world
While her old man's fast asleep
And she doesn't have to get up in the mornin'
With her hair so soft and long
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home
She lives by the sea when the summer wind comes
And the sea don't mind at all
She talks to the sea when the sea runs wild
And the waves run steep and tall
And she doesn't have to get up in the mornin'
With her hair so soft and long
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home
Daylight Katy come on
Daylight Katy come on
If you can't follow me down
Daylight Katy go home

I'm probably wrong, but I'll vote for the kitty cat.

It said something about nine lives in the lyrics...

Trust me, the song is about a whore. There is at least one more thread about this with a lot of detail.

I know, I looked for it, but couldn't find it(well actually I didn't want to waste time).
I'm sure it is about a whore now but I thought it might have been about a cat(why would Gord write a song about a cat? ) when it says "Daylight Katy go home".

Well let's see....
"high heeled friends"...don't know of too many cats with "high heeled friends"
"hair so soft and long"....I realize there are "long haired cats" but I don't think anyone would refer to a cat in this fashion within the body of a song...especially Gord...he's a dog man...
"she talks to the sea"...don't know of any cat that can talk..."meow" yes...but no talkie talkie
"if you can't follow me now"...cats never follow, they are by nature aloof...so why would one make such a silly statement by way of song?
Finally, if indeed this rather mellow "toe tapper" were about a feline...it would most assuredly have been titled "Daylight Kity"
I rest my case

Hi!
Can I come back, please?
I just had to answer this.
Follow me down is a very old blues euphemism for sex!
So, Katy's obviously a high class prozzy.

Yea Gaby!!!!!! Speaking of blues I watched a special on t.v. and they said that Steely Dan was blues. I never looked at them being a blues band I guess.

I've collected a ton of blues and my wife has every Steely Dan CD, Steely Dan=blues ? Well I like 'em both but I'm not sayin' that they're even close. But I might be under a Ribbon of Darkness, sorry.

Hi, Brink.
BILLW – Thanks! Yes. I like a lot of blues, Bessie Smith onwards. I’ve often thought it would be quite fun to hear GL’s take on Billie Holiday’s (Berlin’s) I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, without the heavy jazz bridge.
Joveski – You should have twigged straight away from Baby, Let Me Follow You Down. “Well, I’ll do anything in this G** A******* world, if you just let me follow you down!”

Grief! Joveski! Don’t do that!
I nearly had a heart attack!
Joveski into Englebert Humperdinck!!!!!!!
No. I meant the version from his first recording session where he talks about Eric von Schmidt.
My husband (who is the real Dylan buff in this house) is now rolling on the carpet, peeing himself.
But, at least, you’ve given me an idea for one of his birthday presents. (If he lives that long.)
Thanks!!
