We can all breathe a sigh of relief! Gord is doing well. Rick Haynes has informed me that the surgery was long, and sucessful. Gord is now out of ICU and recovering well. It will be a long and probably painful recuperation, but all went as well as they had hoped.

I'm sure we will hear more later on, especially when Gord himself wants to tell us. Good to know that all went well!

Thank you Jen (and Rick)! So good to hear - now for the hard part <g>. Recovery can be a, er, trial (which isn't the word I was thinking of but we'll keep this a family site.) I'm going to go hunting for a funny recovery card to send to Gord.

This was reconstructive surgery. I believe in relation to his stomach muscles?

Yes, he was having his abdominal muscles essentially rebuilt using muscles from his thigh(s). I'm not sure how many muscles or how long it will be before he can take 'em for a test drive, so to speak.

I have really appreciated this site. It is great to know how things are going and to be alerted to the latest on Gord's recovery. I'm thinking about Massey Hall right now. It has been a while for me. I can hardly wait to hear that voice again and be part of the special atmosphere of a Gord concert.

He must've been able to take a break long enough to record the album "Harmony". Or did he already have them recorded before?

He had the basic (demo) tracks already down. While he was in hospital in late 2002 he had Rick and the guys put down their parts, then they'd bring in the day's work for him to listen to and make suggestions, they'd go back into the studio, add some more, etc. Good therapy <g>

Auburn Annie, I had thought that must have been therapy to the highest power for Gordon Lightfoot, not being able to do concert and all... must have been good for his soul.

Curious questions if you know the answer Annie. What happens to the leg or legs when you remove muscle from them? Does that mean difficulty walking, or rehabilitative therapy.

And can I volunteer to be his therapist?

There is nothing like a Gord concert in Massey Hall, but one of the best parts of the 2001 trip, at least for me, was getting together with the guitar players and jamming all afternoon.
