I must agree with T.C. above. Much more was expected of Bob Rae, a Rhodes scholar.
Bob won the provincial election as the lesser evil of the three choices at a time the pubic just wanted change.
Under his 'leftist rule' this province became known as "The People's Republic of Ontario" with cartoonists always portraying Bob atiried in a Maoist uniform.
To try to save the province money, Bob decided to force all civil workers to take unpaid days off each month. These unpaid holidays (affectionatly known as "Rae Days") put less staff in essential government services such as hospitals, and therefore less money in the pockets of those very citizens who could then spent it back into the economy. Less earnings? Less taxes to pay the government for it altruistic projects. Bob ailienated all of his leftist supporters, from rabid unionists to irrational advocates for the poor.
Now don't get me wrong. I too can have sympathy for his root causes however I disagreed with his methods. I strongly endorse the philosophy that the less fortunate need "a hand up, and not a hand-out". 'One Term Bob' did not!
Gord seems to endorse the values of a conservationist yet although Bob Rae's "New Democratic Party" "talked the 'green' talk", they didn't do much to "walk the 'green' walk". In opposition Bob voraciously opposed logging operations in the Temagami region of Ontario. This is one of the last 'old growth' forests remaining in the province. As premier he endorsed the practice with the quote "that was then, this is now". Brilliant!
The Liberals endorse Kyoto, again a fine cause in principle but is it realistic? Our fine neighbours to the south have not signed on. With the Liberal rules 'Green Credits' could be bought and sold. Large polluters could buy pollution credits from those that did not impact the environment. On paper things improved. In reality they did not! Just like suffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!
The Canadian public is now asked to believe that this far leftist has philosophically shifted his beliefs closer to center. He asks for endorsement to run a Federal party with a totally different philosophical principles.
Canadians should remember that the Liberals were thrown out of power in the last election for numberous reasons, mostly corruption.
The Liberals brought in the infamous "Gun Registry" which sounds very admirable on the surface. This registry was promoted to cost tax payers $85 million dollars with a promise to reduce gun crime. The current cost has balloned to just short of $2 BILLION and the registry is ineffective. The recent mass shootings which occured in Montreal's Dawson Collage was carried out with registered weapons yet prairie farmers owning "varmint" rifles have been made criminals for not sending in the proper forms.
Does anyone believe that criminals in the posession of illegal fire arms will dutifully register their weapons?
The Liberals were the architects of "Ad-Scam" where millions of untendered dollars were given to employ friends and relatives of friends of the political party. Large sums of money were paid out for work that was never needed nor ever done.
Paper trails are non-existant. Money has not been recovered - no one has served any meaningful jail time.
An idiot running a gang of thieves!
So as you can see I have no love for the politician nor the party he is running for.
I could go on and on, (and usually do).
Here I have broken my cardinal rule with you 'Corfid' folks - I discussed specific politics!
Hate mail can be sent to me by private e-mail.
Have to love democracy. Can hate Gord's political stance but still love the man and his music!
