Artist: Third Day
Album: Third Day
Song: Love Song
I've heard it said that a man would climb a mountain
Just to be with the one he loves
How many times has he broken that promise
It has never been done
Well I never climbed the highest mountain, but I walked the hill of Calvary
Just to be with you I'd do anything
There's no price I would not pay
Just to be with you I'd give everything
Oh I'd give my life away
And I've heard it said that a man would swim the ocean
Just to be with the one he loves
All of those dream are empty motion
It has never been done
Well I've never swam the deepest ocean, but I've walked upon the raging sea
Just to be with you I'd do anything
There's no price I would not pay
Just to be with you I would give everything
I would give my life away
And I know that you don't understand the fullness of my love
How I died upon the cross for your sins
And I know that you don't realize how much that I give you
And I promise I would do it all again
Just to be with you I've done everything
There's no price I did not pay
Just to be with you I gave everything
Yes I gave my life away
I gave my life away
Just to be with you
**********************************
This is the only song I could think of that mentions climbing the highest mountain and swimming the ocean.

How about "Baby The Rain Must Fall" by Glenn Yarbrough?
"Some men climb a mountain,
Some men swim the sea.
Some men fly above the sky,
They are what they must be.
But baby the rain must fall,
Baby the wind must blow.
Wherever my heart leads me,
Baby I must go."
Does any of this sound familiar??

Yeah...I have almost as many Third Day albums as I have Gord albums!!!! "Love Song" was the first song I heard of theirs...and I was hooked. Mack Powell's voice is amazing! "Come Together" is a really good album!

OK I tried a'googling for your lyrics sarah and found songs containing "highest mountain" or "seven seas" but not both together Eventually I did find a Google "cached" page from an apparently defunct geocities site with the verses of a poem called "to you"
at http://216.239.33.104/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8
two successive verses contain your words so that might be it.
I couldn't let Annie get away with her results!!!

Sigh. John, John, I'll tell you what I tell my kids: this is not a contest (nyah nyah)<g>.
In any event, it's not a Lightfoot lyric.

Watchman,
Did J.G. Snagglesworth TELL you this personally? (Maybe he perished in the river because you had to choose between saving him and Gord. A portions of his last words may have contained the message.)

Rebecca,
J.G. Snagglesworth is one of the greatest songwriters of our time, but not a good canoeist. He has no legs and only one arm which contains only 2 fingers and thumb. Canoeing would be very frustrating, not to mention dangerous for him.
He wrote such songs as "Autumn Leaves In The Mud", "Planes, Bikes and Skateboards", "Over Exposed Film Again", and a childrens song you may have heard of called "Opey The Hampster For Dinner Again". All good tunes that soooooth the soul.

Watchman,
I'm sorry to hear that Snagglesworth isn't into canoeing because of his disability. Adaptive canoeing equipment now exists, with the capacity to overcome virtually any limitations, physical or otherwise. (This stuff is costly, of course, but with the blockbuster hits your man has composed, the cost would be mere pocket change to him.) If you see your friend J.G., you might mention it. There's no reason for him to miss out on a good thing.

Hey, Watchman, is J.G. Snagglesworth descended (on his mother's side, of course) from the Legensis Pullibus family?

Annie,
Not from what I can recall from publications that I have read. If memory serves me correctly, J.G. is from North Umberland and all I know about his ancestory is that he comes from a very long line of reputable roofers.
By the way, the Snagglesworth originals "Opey The Hamster For Dinner Again" and "Over Exposed Film Again" are true stories from his life. Even though he did not start singing and songwriting until his early 80's, he credits much of his inspiration to Lightfoot.
Why wasn't he asked to sing something for that new tribute album?
Tendervioletblue, I only edited for spelling. I promise.

Sarah,I don't know if they've answered you question right or not but from what you left at the top,it sounds like a line from,"St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) by John Parr. "I would climb the highest mountain, swim the seven seas,I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me!" I might be wrong but it sounds like it may be right. (I may be right,I may be crazy! )

Brilliant sleuthing Walter a.k.a. "B"
the lyrics on St Elmo's fire are indeed very similar to Sarah/Beth's conundrum
see:-
http://paperclippings.com/list/JtoL/...elmosfire.html
(chorus)
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me, burnin' in me.
Just cross the wildest sea
not swim the seven seas
but close enough Sarah/Beth??

Could be "Tuff Enuff" by The Fabulous Thunderbirds, 1986.

Nar....
OK chuck and restless I had a look at this site:- http://www.lyricstime.com/lyrics/833.html
and the lyrics of hot blooded by foreigner do not include any reference to any mountains let alone seas??
and the suggestion by Bill does not hold much water either see:- http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/t/tuf...nderbirds.html
it does include
For you baby I would swim the sea
but no reference to any mountains only climbing the Empire State Building
Come on Sarah/Beth tell us if it is the poem I found "to you" or Watchman Al's mythical J.G.Snagglesworth or Oma's Love Song

Watchman, I have just dug out my J.G.Snaggleworth greatest flops album, (we aficionados know him as "The Great Snag")
And the lyric actually is 'I would tunnel thru the highest mountain, I would drink the seven seas'
A fine wordsmith.

Very Good Restless that is more like it
But it might just as well have been the following well known song
Climb ev'ry
mountain
Ford every stream
which is actually part of the lyrics of
Climb Every Mountain
by Christina Aguilera
(sic-very sick)
that is according to this site:- http://www.letssingit.com/christina-...n-98qn5kg.html
And Gerald Desert:-
You should get out more and buy some newer records!!
And where are the appreciative responses by Sarah a.k.a. Beth???
