Oops, my bad... I kind of glossed over that last sentence in the first post I'm going to have to punt this one since I'm not familiar with Salute. I'll see if I can find the CD at one of the local libraries here so I can render a fair judgement.

BTW, I've been a lurker here at the forums for a few months and finally decided to take the plunge yesterday and join up. I've had a great time reading through all of the postings in this forum (I started at the very beginning and worked my way up to the most recent posts), and have learned far more about Mr. Lightfoot in these few months than I had learned in all of the previous years of being a fan of his.

Janice, thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to being an active (and hopefully more detail oriented) poster.

I'll be curious to hear what you think about Salute - even though I picked Back Here On Earth, Salute has one of my very favorite songs on it. Unfortunately, I'm not overly fond of the album beyond that one song

Thanks one and all for the warm, hearty welcomes. Where do I begin? I wish I could say that I've met Mr. Lightfoot, but I've never had the pleasure. Maybe someday...from what I have gathered on the forum he seems to be a genuinely nice fellow.

I was first introduced to his music when the song "Sundown" came out on the radio. I'm a sucker for a good melody and tight harmonies, and that song really resounded with me. Once I heard "Carefree Highway", I was a fan for good.

I've seen Gordon twice; once in 1978 at the Waikiki Shell, and once here in Columbus in 1982 at Vet's Memorial. The concert at the Shell was awesome...it was right after "Endless Wire" came out. Gordon and the band were in excellent tune, and I literally got chills when the band played "The Circle is Small"...it was very moving. The Columbus concert occurred sometime after "Shadows" came out. I don't know what it was, but at the time I was a little bit disappointed with the concert. I believe he drew heavily from "Shadows", and I wasn't quite as familiar with the material from that album as I was some of the previous ones. It could also be the difference in venues between the two concerts--warm weather, Plumeria trees, great acoustics vs. cold, grimy Columbus and lousy acoustics. Needless to say, I've now grown more appreciative of "Shadows", especially the title song and "Blackberry Wine".

My favorite Gord song? It varies, there are countless great ones. I sort of favor his material from '74 to the early '80's, but the songs on "Gord's Gold" show how strong his earlier material was as well. So, OK here goes...my favorite Gord song is SummertiThehouseyouliveDaylighKaTheCircleisSmSea ofTranqOntheHighSeas. However, if I'm really pinned down, "The House You Live In" does it for me. What great words to live by.

OK, enough of my rambling. I could go on and on, but will defer at the risk of exasperating everyone!
