Gord songs Elvis SHOULD have covered...

We all know Elvis did For Lovin' Me and Early Morning Rain. But... what other Gord songs should Elvis have done?

Same Old Loverman
If Children Had Wings

I could see these with the huskiness of Elvis' early 70s voice, with gospel-tinged arrangements. Especially If Children Had Wings.

What about the rest of you?

I don't see Presley doing "If Children Had Wings",I can't even imagine it in my head for i don't think it fits his style.

It wouldn't have surprised me if Elvis had done as others and recorded,"IYCRMM". I think "Cotton Jenny" is one,"Talking In Your Sleep","Sundown","Slide It On Over" (a more "rock" approach) maybe even "All the Lovely Ladies.

Speaking of,"If you Could Read My Mind",this week marks the 35th anniversary of it's entry into the Billboard Top 40. Entered and then as weeks passed,went all the way to #5. Just thought I'd mention it.

I have just spent some fruitless time trying to find the date and position that IYCRMM
featured in the UK top twenty charts in I suppose 1971
it was certainly in that year that then BBC Radio One disk jockey Noel Edmonds began playing IYCRMM
every day until it became (I thought) a largish UK
hit
But I found nothing.Maybe my old memory is going as on

I think "Summer Side of Life" has a kind of Elvis feel to it (think "Suspicious Minds"). Big-sounding, lots of background vx.

Sorry John,I know almost nothing about UK charts. Only that musical opinions are almost opposite ours here in the U.S.

For example:Diana Ross' 1986 song,"Chain Reaction" was a #1 hit there (so I heard.)
While here,it didn't even crack the top 50! (No one knew it then but her chart fortunes were over & done with.)

I also know they make big deal about what the top song the week of Christmas is. In America,only Top 40 chart buffs like myself find that interesting.

Oh and to add more (one Lightfoot & one other act)Elvis should have done "Is There Anyone Home" and from George Harrison he should have done,"My Sweet Lord".

(By the way,"another" 35th Anni. this year. Aug. 1st will be the anniversary of the Concert for Bangla-Desh,which I'm checking out of the library today. )

Hi All. I think I am right in saying IYCRMM reached No 29 for 1 week, then fell back, I recall Gord coming over to do "TOP OF THE POPS". I think that tape was lost, as at that time a lot of video tape was recorded over to cut costs.

As for Elvis doing a cover.I think there are so many, but ......."To Late For Prayin". This song is Top Draw.
