I realize that many people are going to think that I crazy or stupid, but Im planning
a 1 week vacation to the UP of michigan and
St. Saint Marie, Canada and would very much like to meet Gordon Lightfoot. I will be staying in a cabin on whitefish bay and would
pay a large (very large) sum of money to
have him come to our cabin and sing to my
3 year old boy, my seven year old daughter
and my beautiful wife. I have been a fan since I can remember, and this would be a dream come true. How do I contact him?
I am serious about trying to make this happen. Can anyone help me? We will be in our cabin June28-July 6.

titan,
Contact Gordon Lightfoot through his company. And let us know how it turns out. Ask him for permission to tape the performance, as we cannot condone nor participate in unauthorized recordings i.e. bootlegs. Best of luck, your family is lucky to have a guy like you at the helm. And if you need an MC I'd like to offer my services.

Thank-you for the address. Im going to try to put a deal together in the next week or so. Our cabin will be 10 miles away from the shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point so
my seven year old daughter is excited about
seeing the bell from Fitzgerald. She has requested to listen to my Lightfoot CD's
OVER and OVER and loves The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. It would be awesome to
meet him and play for us for 45 minutes or so. I would want the performance to be
"unplugged" with no percussion or any othe musicians. I hope I have good luck?

Bill and Auburn Annie,
Thank you for the lifeline. I just called
the office in Toronto and told the girl about
our vacation and she said that she would have
Ann or Barry or even Gordon call me!!!
I realize that some people may laugh at me
for such an improbable dream, but that's why they call them dreams. I worked for every penny Im worth, and Ive always been taught that hard work can help you achieve your dreams!! Heck, I would be overjoyed to talk
to Gordon on the phone.
Thanks Again!!!

Well, I'm going to be realistic here. I know that's no fun, but...
The chances of Gord doing this is pretty slim. First of all, he traditionally just doesn't do this type of thing. Secondly, he's recuperating from a serious illness, and hasn't announced any performance plans for this year at all. So, maybe you should take a bunch of Lightfoot CDs and a decent stereo system, just as a backup plan.

I recieved a phone call this morning from Ann. She was very kind and frank with me.
We spoke for about five minutes. She was
very clear when she told me that Gordon
was not going to do any performances of any kind this year. She said, and this is almost a direct quote to the best of my memory,
"He (Gordon) was going to be operated on again very soon." and that He " was able to handle his every day affairs but not in a condition to sing or perform of any kind."
I realized that the chances of this ever
happening was slim but at one time, nobody
believed that man would walk on the moon.
Anyway, I don't claim to be anyone special.
I'm just a Lightfoot fan that wanted to
blow the minds of my two kids and wife.
In life; your better off if you have BIG dreams than small ones.

Sorry this didn't work out for you (not really a surprise since I'd never heard of him doing private performances - uh, except in some fantasy/dream sequences posted elsewhere on this site <g> ). Anyway, we appreciate the information about more surgery (rats!), no planned concerts this year (expected but still rats!), and the general condition of his health. I hope he's not too discouraged - time to send a cheery note or two folks??

Titan,
Your're not crazy or stupid-- you're a Husband and Dad. I think it's great your big dreams involve your family. Your heart's in the right place, even though your money won't be going where you want it to.

Stepping into the gauzy world of guesswork here but "more surgery" may be to release adhesions, extremely common after abdominal surgery of any kind. They're actually part of the healing process but not infrequently can cause pain, intestinal obstruction and other problems. If this is the problem, I'm sure Gord's doctors had warned him of the probability of more surgery, and with luck they can do it laparoscopically (with little incisions and a scope) rather than open surgery. It has a much faster recovery that's far less painful. This is just one more of those ongoing bumps on the road to full recovery; it's never the smooth ride you expect or hope for.

My aunt just had major stomach and colon surgery for a perferated(hope I spelled that right)colon. She just came home from the hospital 2 days ago and they told her she would one more surgery to release the adhesions she has. Just seeing her and talking to her, how she is so tired and in a little bit of pain. I can imagine what Gordon must have gone and still going through. She is starting to get some strength back so that is good.

Remember one thing folks,we are all very special. We're here aren't we? On this planet, that is. Anyhow,it's not silly to want to meet a person who's famous,as long as you are not obsessed with that person and live a normal life. I've often thought it would be cool to have, not just GL,but any of my favorites give a personal concert, simply because I asked. I do have to say that in August '02 when I saw him in concert here in Phoenix, just being able to sit in 2nd row made it feel like it was just me sitting there in the audience. Then getting to meet him after the show, shake his hand, get 2 sets of autographs from him & the band and just getting to see what a down to earth person he was. He didn't even leave in a Limousine. A simple tan car. To me,that's true coolness. Borderstone, outta here and A.B.!
