Utica NY June 25, 2009
I haven't posted anything here in a few years, but I had to come out of "retirement" to say this: Gord's coming to my home town!!!!
The Stanley Center for the Arts in downtown Utica is one of the most drop-dead gorgeous theaters in existence. It was built in 1927 and received a $20 million dollar renovation completed in 2008. It includes a 6,500 pound Tiffany style chandelier-- the world's largest chandelier hanging from a single fixture.
If you want to experience a Gordon Lightfoot concert in the most beautiful interior this side of Heaven and the Canadian border, don't miss the Utica concert!!

Proceeds from the concert at the Stanley will benefit cardiac research at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory here in Utica. Among other things, the Laboratory is now one of a handful of world centers capable of determining the genetic basis of cardiac arrhythmias responsible for sudden cardiac arrest in young adults, children and infants. http://www.mmrl.edu/lightfoot.asp has links and info about the concert and the Laboratory.
Does Gord do a lot of benefits like this?

Wow! That looks like some theater!
We have a really pretty one down here in NJ - the Count BAise in Red Bank, but it doesn't have a staircase like that.
July 28th in Morristown? Wrong day! I'm booked....

Welcome back Brian57! The Stanley theater looks like a very pretty venue.I have tickets to go see Gordy at Chautauqua Institution in July(come on,July!).Its sort of a plain jane ampitheater,if I remember right. But its sufficient for concerts.I'll try to get some pics and post them after the show.

The story I've heard is that the staircase is modeled after the grand staircase on the Titanic. (much dryer, though)

Actually, I have had the Binghamton concert on my site for months. Still waiting for the d--n thing to go on sale, as it's the weekend before the Saratoga race meet, so I will be back East in time to go to it.

She opened in 1928-- a year before the stock market crash and the beginning of the depression-- overboard was the norm! It was dawn just before the darkest.
