The Royal Canadian Air Farce did a send up of lightfoot during one of their skits.
I believe it was Alan Park who was in the clip - doing his regular commentary. He was constantly saying "We're sorry for making fun nof global warming, political correctness..." etc. etc.
He even went on to say "We're sorry... that we asked Gordon Lightfoot to write a song about it."
Out comes "GL" and he's singing away. He makes referece to being lactose intolerant. Eventually he gets run over by a truck. 
Park comes back and does some more talking. At the end, he can't figure out how to end the skit.
We see GL limping, but still singing.
"I think I have the ending yer looking fer...
Oh no... here comes a bus..." He gets run over by a bus! End of skit.
I was laughing hysterically. I love mindless comedy.
The only thing is, I'm looking for the clip and I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me find it? Please?

Not always my cup of tea but I suspect loopy humor has always been with us, back to whenever it became a recognizable part of human behavior (do our chimp cousins indulge in slapstick?) Think Punch and Judy - which hilarity has always escaped me - and the Three Stooges (ditto). Human beings need no encouragement to engage in questionable behavior towards one another. It's as old as humanity itself and prohibition hasn't worked. Those who enjoy it will seek it out; those who don't, avert their eyes or otherwise avoid it. As Sly Stone said, "different strokes for different folks."

Well I'm sorry but I liked it, really sorry. I didn't see any extreme violence though so I'm sorry. At least they know our guy is a fighter, gets hit by a bus and gets right back up - sorry. OK I'll stop - sorry.

I thought it was hilarous but then Lightfoot is parodied a lot by several Canadian satirical comedy shows - as many other well known Caandians are- be they entertainers/sports figures/politicians etc..
I laff like a loon..
Maybe ya gotta be a Canuck to get the humour in
the whole "im sorry" piece and getting the quintessential Canuck to write a song about it..and then while he's apologizing the poor guy gets mowed down by a bus...and not just any bus - a school bus...it's hard to explain..

Can one be Canadian by extension? My husband is Canadian and my paternal grandmother's parents were from Quebec. Another sister lived in Toronto with her Canadian husband for more than 10 years - think we've got it covered??

I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry...but I liked the clip too. it was funny in the way that every doggone bloomin' thing seems to offend someone, somewhere.
I once found myself getting low on tolerance, and I found I was offended by just about everything. Thank God I got over that! It's OK to poke fun at our heroes every now and then. I liked the part after Gord got run over the narrator said "we're sorry we didn't give Gordon a new bus schedule."

I'm REALLY, really sorry, that I think it's really REALLY hilarious. And DellroyGM, I could have thought that you were my husband. Hm-m-m-m-m .......
His name is Gary and his initials are "GM" but if you should be he. You really have me fooled!!!
Incidentally, he (my husband, Gary) thought it was hilarious, too, and he has 'almost died' just as many times as Gord has. (Most recently just a couple of weeks after we last saw Gord.) Often, there is a feeling that comes as one ages, that would sound almost sacriligious when one is younger. Death is something that has been looked at face to face. But, the fact that we are still here, we can accept it as a part of life. I can tell you that from experience. I AM old.
Actually, being old does have a few advantages,
things like that, and "senior meal" prices, and
memories, they are priceless. (Especially when they involve you and your husband going to GL
concerts for the last 30+ years....many of those with our children)

Good Lord! I made no sense whatsoever in the previous post. Senility must really be setting in.
It's hard to put into words the fact that things can seem humorous at this advanced age. It's not that we have become jaded, but there is a certain irony to death now. But, you accept it, and it doesn't seem upsetting. This really impacted me about a week ago when my husband and I were dicussing an old acquaintance. He said "I wonder if HE is still alive." Up until recently he would always say "I wonder where so and so is now." But, now after a couple of years of real health problems, life is looked at in different terms, but not necessarily with fear. I aften wondered it this day would ever come. It does.
