I've come up with an idea I hope will be kind of fun. Since it's not Gord related I have to put it here.
This game is simple,I'll put up the name of a singer and then tell me if you think it's their stage name or if it's their given name.

I'll take a certain number of votes and acept the majority as the overall answer. Then I'll reveal wheather it's true or not. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Okay, here's the first one!! > Christopher Cross. Real or stage? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Vote now! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

stationmaster 10-17-2004 08:24 PM

Do you want us to say their real names?
I will say this first one is a stage name for now.

djb 10-18-2004 02:13 PM

I'll go with stage name too. Some bell from way back in the past is ringing in my grey matter, but I can't quite place it yet.

djb 10-18-2004 02:14 PM

Oh, and no, if we believe -- or know -- it to be a stage name then let's keep quiet and not spoil the fun for others who chime in late.

Please and thanks!

Borderstone 10-18-2004 06:05 PM

Djb,that's right...no one say if you actually know, one way or the other!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Just if you think it's "stage" or "given".

A few more votes and I'll let you in on it! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

jj 10-18-2004 06:10 PM

ok, i'll say REAL, no one could be THAT uncreative, lol

LSH 10-18-2004 09:03 PM

jj, how wrong you are, unfortunately (about no one being that uncreative..)
I'll go with stage name...I'm gonna suck at this game, I can tell

jj 10-19-2004 04:09 AM

lol, L...well i guess i'm sucking the most so far or i'm just in the minority, which is ok

i think there was a band cris cross, i'll have to check with a niece...it doesn't work for me, neither does that marky mark, crap

hmm, i used that sailing tune for video track once, it gave me a new appreciation for it after trying to duck it in malls and grocery stores most of my recent life...last i saw this guy, he was singing Beech Boy harmonies, subbing for a dead guy

Auburn Annie 10-19-2004 05:44 AM

Half his own (Christopher) and half stage (Cross)

Borderstone 10-19-2004 06:03 PM

Okay,time for the answer. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

We have 3 exact votes for stage and 1 (J.J.) for real name. Annie did a 1/2 & 1/2,which is not so much a vote as it is a bit of a give away,if you know Top 40 like I do.

Christopher Cross is...exactly what Annie said! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif His 1st name is real,"Cross" is just a catchy word someone at WB suggested. His real last name is Geppert. (I like it! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

Oh,J.J.,yes there was the teen rap duo Kris Kross from 1992 to 1996. In '92 they had a #1 hit with,"Jump" (No not Van Halen's) That lead to A DJ here in Phoenix making a joke about the 2 "Crosses" doing each other's music! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Way to go Station, djb and LSH! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Okay next!

Englebert Humperdinck. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

If I recall correctly, its the singer's stage name, but actually is someone else's real name, some conductor or composer, I think. So apparently, someone CAN be that cruel to a baby.

jj 10-20-2004 08:35 AM

fake...but i'd rather listen to him than Tom Jones (my mom played both of them to death while i should have been prepping for kindergarten), she also played GL and so atleast i was good in Canadian geog http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

speaking of real or fake, for more fun: http://ideaexplore.net/ron/bands/index2.php

djb 10-20-2004 01:00 PM

I'll say EH is fake.

Mind you, I have a mental block with EH and Tom Jones, as I have a habit of confusing them either way.

I know, I know. Sorry.

Auburn Annie 10-20-2004 01:26 PM

You can find out here or wait to be surprised - depends on which EH you mean:
http://www.classicbands.com/hump.html

djb 10-20-2004 02:26 PM

Yes, I meant him. Thanks for the info. I didn't know all of his background, and it was informative reading.

LSH 10-20-2004 06:28 PM

oooh, come on jj, sing it with me..
Up, up and away in my beautiful, my beautiful balloon....

my mom was really into EH also. No tom jones though...I think the first time I ever really paid any attention to Tom at all is when he came out with The Lead, And How to Swing It...(snicker)

Borderstone 10-20-2004 08:41 PM

Okay! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif I should've known that'd be too easy! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Yes E.H.'s name isn't real. His real name is Arnold Dorsey. ..and yes! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Someone was that cruel to a music producer as a baby! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif Poor kid! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif

Annie! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif Don't ruin the fun!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/tongue.gif Let them be surprised! Sheesh! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Okay, here's #3! -Janis Ian- Been me! Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

"The station is for travelers even you must ride someday"

djb 10-21-2004 08:38 AM

This one I have no clue about, so for the sake of evening up the numbers I will say real.

johnfowles 10-24-2004 07:37 AM

Oh yus engledick humperbert
and I always thought his real name was Gerry Dorsey but no Walter is correct for once

"Arnold George Dorsey gave the world's finest impersonation of Jerry Lewis - even Jerry
Lewis still thinks so - and was quickly dubbed Gerry Dorsey by his fans.
It became his professional stage name.

Gerry's manager suggested the new name Engelbert Humperdinck. It was just outrageous enough to be memorable. It would take a man with a secure self-image and sense of humor to pull it off.

And it was Humperdinck, not Elvis, who made famous the sideburns and flamboyant leather jumpsuits
So there you go

Okay, only 2 votes here and a nice bit of info. from John about good old Engle. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Stationmaster is correct in saying it's not real. Although Janis is her first name her real last name is "fink". No joke.

Ian is made from three letters in her first name. Way to go Station.!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Okay next......Cyndi Lauper! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

djb 10-27-2004 03:22 AM

I'll question the transposition of the I and Y in Cyndi, but I will say the overall name is real.

Borderstone 11-04-2004 04:22 PM

Yes,her name is real, even the spelling.

To quote Jim Carrey in reference to participation here:"Nobody wants ta play wit me!" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif Waaaahh!
