I've been trying to locate the name of a movie that featured "If You Could Read My Mind" in the closing credits. All that I can recall about the movie was that it was about prisoners and that I saw it in the movie theatre. I would like to see this movie again but since I was a young girl when I saw it, I have no idea what it could be. This movie was out either during the late 70's or early 80's. Can anyone help me to find out what the name of this movie is?

Thanks for doing that Charlene. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
I have checked every net source and could not find any late 1970's films that have "Read My Mind" at the end or even in it. Nilda, you must have seen a re-release of some film or else you saw a film that didn't do well at the box office and it's become that forgotten! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif I tried! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif Bye! ------------------ "A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm." ;) - Borderstone |
Thanks for your reply unfortunately the film you suggested is not the one I'm looking for. I'll keep looking I'm sure it is out there somewhere. Even if the film did badly it would still be in some library somewhere.

Gordie also contributed If You Could Read My Mind to a Canadian movie called 'Slapshot'. This movie was set in Delisle, Saskatchewan. Paul Newman starred in the movie. It was kind of a "Dud", but us Saskatchewan people were really excited over it. It is about the hockey side of our little province.

The Jackman movie didn't have IYCRMM and the older 1973 version did....
Memory is a fleeting thing...that's why I used GOOGLE and found the info required. It may not be the one you think you're looking for but it is the one and only movie made with IYCRMM running through it and at the end. I don't believe there is another with IYCRMM unless it's the hockey movie "Slapshot", already mentioned. (great movie!) I'm pretty sure about this....me, Wayne Francis, Google...pretty sure. lol my goodness Sir John - THAT is some nice pic ya posted! almost as good as the "Char Sandwich" one! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif |

Thanks to everyone for all the info, it was greatly appreciated. I was mistaken with my dates, I saw the film either in the late 60's or early 70's. I recall there was a black actor (Sidney Poitier?)in the movie. My husband thinks I may be referring to a movie called "The Quiet Ones" but I can't find anything on the movie. Mr. Poitier starred in it and received an Academy nomination for it. Although I was only about 6 years old at the time, the movie and IYCRMM song made a big impact on me. The first and second verse of the song fit very well with the movie. It was almost as if the song was written for the movie. I'll continue my research on "The Quiet Ones" maybe I'll hit the jackpot, if not I'll continue to look for the film. It has to be somewhere.
Thanks for the picture, great eye candy. I'm from the Wakefield section of the Bronx, specifically Baychester not too far from Eastchester. talbot10 and I are neighbors. |

It could not have been "The Defiant Ones" as it was released in 1958 |

Was the movie made/released around the time you saw it or was it made earlier? Seeing at 6 in the time frame given doesn't mean it was made around that time.
Regardless, I'm sure (with help from internet searches and Wayne Francis) that the aforementioned movies with IYCRMM in them are the only ones out there. The Quiet One - Internet searches come up with: http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movie...tml?v_id=39908 no Lightfoot music in it. Internet searches: Sidney Poitier films: none of these movies he has made has Lightfoot music either: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001627/ Sidney will be 78 on Feb.20. Happy Birthday! It was kind of a "Dud", but us Saskatchewan people were really excited over it. It is about the hockey side of our little province. Found this on a hockey site: Slapshot was fact based. The movie is based on the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in the late 70's. It was filmed in NAHL rinks and used NAHL players as stand-ins and fillers. Binghamton's Rod Bloomfield did some of the skating scenes for Paul Newman. Oglethorpe was in reality Billy Goldthorpe of the Syracuse Blazers (look in the dictionary for "goon" and you'd find his picture). One of the consultants for the movie was Ned Dowd's sister. Ned played for the Johnstown Jets who were the basis for the Chiefs team. The Hanson's really existed also - they were the brothers Jack, Jeff and Steve Carlson. (this is the same Steve Carlson who played for the Kings. Also, Jack and Jeff played in the WHL). The scene were they went into the crowd actually happened at the Utica Memorial Aud. against the Comets. This event turned an otherwise mediocre team into an inspired team as the Jets roared to a league championship. And yes the Carlsons wore thick black glasses and had long hair just like that. Two of the Carlsons played "themselves" in the movie and the third brother was played by Dave Hanson who had some success with the Adirondack Red Wings of the AHL in the 80's. ******************************************* Me, again. Some of the scenes were shot in Syracuse at the old War Memorial arena. I remember there being mega news coverage. I haven't seen the movie in ages so can't vouch for the soundtrack. |

I liked Slapshot, I was a fan of Michael Ontkean at that time (and an always fan of Paul Newman). Don't remember the music, I do remember the butt shot though.
