RICK PICS: Tonite, we're appearing at the Peterborough Memorial Arena. We've played at this rink many times over the years, going back to the early days, as a trio.

My friend and I had an eventful drive to Peterborough missing the first turn onto the highway..too much talk! Then about 12 miles past where we were supposed to be in Peterborough we made a quick turn around and saw police cars speeding into town...

We eventually found our way into town and found out where the police were heading..A couple of blocks from the venue the police had cordoned off the street and all that met at the intersection where there had been an accident. We were about 20 cars back and had to u-turn again, head back to the highway and make our way in from the other direction...and once again got caught up in traffic due to the accident. Luckily the police were allowing left turns and after several minutes we were pulling into the parking lot! I got out to go in and get the tix while my friend parked the car... It turns out they wanted cash only and all there was to pay with was a debit card! After pleading to be let in the car was parked and we entered the Peterborough arena with 15 minutes to spare! woo-hoo... !!

We made out way to the seats and I spoke with Mr. Fiedler and told him about the accident and the massive traffic jam all around the venue so folks might be late coming in. He then went and told 'the powers that be' and instead of an 8 pm start the concert began at 8:06.. The first few tunes were a bit rough with Gordon having some raspiness but he soldiered on and the crowd was loving it. There weren't any camera cops and other than a big haired woman in front of me I had a good sight line for pictures and videos.. I wanted to get another video of DRIFTERS because the night before in Hamilton I missed the first few seconds! And again tonight I missed them! He finished APPT and went right into DRIFTERS with barely a pause! But I know Richard will be happy anyway..There ya go Richard!

As he mentioned the night before in Hamilton before singing The Wreck he said Stompin' Tom, who we lost last year, and a personal hero of mine, was at the same Eastern Studios in Toronto when it was being recorded and during playback he stuck his head in and said, "that's gonna be a hit!" "And he was right, he was right."

There wasn't a sighting of Ronnie Hawkins because he had been presented with his Honourary Order of Canada in Ottawa earlier in the day! YAY Ronnie!! http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...992#post184992

After he sang Baby Step Back he said a lyric from BSB, "I don't cause no accidents" and mentioned he had been told there was an accident down the street because people were heading to see him! In the Peterborough paper today I read that a motorcyclist had died in the accident..

After CRT and saying goodnight he and the guys left the stage to a standing ovation. After several moments they returned and sang Song For A Winter's Night-another standing "O" and again after several moments and nobody leaving they came out to do a 2nd encore - In My Fashion! And before we knew it the show was over and we waited to go backstage to the M&G for a quick HI. A friend had given me and my friend 2014 Canadian Tour Posters so we had those for Gordon to sign...We spent some time talking with Barry and Rick which is always nice..They had flown from TO to P'boro-int he air for about 10 minutes!lol - They need the plane for the rest of this tour-Kingston to the east, then back west to London and then north to Owen Sound-all arenas except for Hamilton Place!lol it's so great that they come to the M&G's and talk with fans as much as they can before having to head out to the next venue.. Folks lined up as Warren explained and everyone had a mere few seconds with Gordon-a quick autograph and photo and escorted out...

Gordon signed my poster and I noticed he wrote my full name, not Char as usual...I said, wow I didn't think you remembered my full name and he laffed and said,"of course I do! I've known you for along time now!" I said, 'well one day you might write, 'omigawd she's back again'..lol.
He replied, "no, not ever!"
So I then took that opportunity to mention that we could perhaps do another phone CHat before Massey and he said it sounded like a great idea and we'd do it for sure. yay!

The night wasn't over tho - on the drive home we saw a major fire at some processing facility and the sky was lit up the whole drive home with fork and sheet lightning!! yowza!

Gordon Lightfoot: He still has it.

76 year old Canadian legendary singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot put on a show at Peterborough’s Memorial Centre on May 8, 2014 that proved he is alive and well. He joked about his age and health using Mark Twain’s famous remark: “Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated”. Lightfoot was clearly happy to be in friendly Peterborough giving a full 2 set performance with 2 encores for a less than full arena, of mostly aging baby boomers. The current tour, with a highly skilled four person group of musicians features Lightfoot’s personal favourite songs, many of which are not well known. The crowd quietly listened to several such pieces before starting to sing along with Rainy Day People.

The show continued with more of Gord’s Gold later in the first set and in the second set. Everyone was quite comfortable when they heard If You Could Read My Mind. The crowd was thrilled by a strong performance of Canadian Railroad Trilogy, after the performer gave tribute to the Peterborough audience as a particularly good one. Lightfoot spoke of being at Eastern Sound Studios recording a folk song for a new album in 1976, while Stompin’ Tom Connors was recording in the next room. After hearing the song, Stompin’ Tom came over excited, proclaiming “that song is going to be a big hit.” Lightfoot then played the song which turned out to be his most popular one ever: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

After the second encore the audience left exhausted from the long show, but realizing the depth of Gordon Lightfoot goes well beyond the hits we all know and love.

The Canadian shows look really inspired!

Great pics and videos...and interesting that Gord seems to be using both his Martin D-18 and the McGlincey 6-strings. One for each set?

Barry told me a story about doing a show in England where the stage revolved..He figured out how long one rotation took and when Gordon started singing Pussywillows-Cattails (no drums) he got off the stage and sat down while it circled around and just in time for the next tune he jumped back on..lol

Timing is everything in more ways than one in drumming LOL.

I should have checked the Lightfoot.ca site, the info is right there ...

"Gear: In concert, Premier drums (vintage '75) with a Pearl snare and Sabian cymbals. In the studio, several different sets. The most used is a set of Premiers (vintage '68), with many varied snare drums and Zildjian and Sabian cymbals."

Not sure if mine is vintage '75, but I bought the set used in the late 1980s, so it could well be ...
