Default Virginia concerts are in DSR's future

Leaving for the coast in a few minutes to join the tour for a few nights. Thank you to everyone for the wonderful reviews you posted. If you wish to receive a picture of Gordon on a button please PM me so I will save you one. Not sure where I will be sitting at the Portsmouth concert but will be in the first row in the pit at Wolf Trap. Safe travel is my wish for all.

Joyce if you are reading this please find me at Wolf Trap.

Hello Wes my friend,

Don't be jealous. Gordon is my friend and I will never get enough even after 30 some years. I will try to call you after I get home and we can play phone catch up. Sending you a hug.

Hi everyone,

Please do not PM me about the buttons. I only have a few to share at the concerts. I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Sometimes I don't communicate very well.

Visited the venue. It is a beautiful outdoor theater. I bet the sound system will be good too. Will try to write a few lines when we get get back from the concert.

I have never been able to do a set list because as soon as Gordon starts to sing I have to listen. It was a very hot night. I thought Gordon looked good and sounded good. He seemed to walk with a spring in his step. Of course Terry, Barry, Rick and Mike did a great job. There were not very many empty seats which was nice to see. I am looking forward to Wolf Trap tomorrow night even thought I heard it was going to be 99%.

Same here DSR, as soon as Gordon steps onto the stage I just enjoy too much watching & listening to all that he does during the time the concert last, that I dont like doing that set list.

Thanks for the update...

Have a great time @ The Wolf Trap !

DSR,

Saw you selling buttons last night in Portsmouth. If I'd realized that was you, I would have said hello. I was the guy in the straw hat just behind you when you were talking with the fellow about the "Gord's Gold" LP. I hope the guys have it easier with the guitars at Wolf Trap. Humidity makes a wooden guitar top swell forcing the strings to lose pitch.

It was a good show, but it was hot. Crowd was a little rowdy for a Gord show. He started one song over because of the shouting. Tuning on his D-18 went off several times. He had to stop and retune for the opening chord on "Restless." My wife and I had a few talkers in the row behind us which was annoying.

Met a couple of guys next to me that used to gig together as an acoustic group and really knew his stuff. We had a nice chat during the break about guitars and Gord's songs. I invited them here, hope they show up.

Last night was the first time I've seen Terry singing a little harmony bit for a show. I knew he did it, but first time I've noticed it.

He did Fitz with the new line. I was hoping for CRT, since I wanted to check his 12-string strumming for the slow part.

One funny bit, his right sleeve caught something sticky and, with the heat and humidity, was sticking to his guitars. A couple of times the sleeve pulled at a point that it caught his arm enough to notice on both the 6 and 12. He finally said something to the guys about putting jelly on his guitars.

Sorry I didn't record a set list.

First time I've been able to see him in back to back years.

Had a good time.

DSR doesn't sell buttons, she gives them to fans. A nice memento of the concert, her and Gord. Too bad you didn't get a chance to say hi.

I never knew that about the humidity and guitars. Laughing about the jelly on his guitar. I would much rather read reviews like yours - with tidbits, insights and off the cuff remarks from the band than read set lists. What line is changed in Wreck?

Hey DSR! I was at Wolftrap last night and heard Gord's shout out to you! We were in row Q opposite side of the stage. What a great show. Home From the Forest was the highlight of the show IMO - it sounded great. Here's the setlist:

Did She Mention My Name
Carefree Highway
Sea of Tranquility
14K Gold
Never Too Close
APPT
Let It Ride
Christian Island (one verse - wow!)
Shadows
Beautiful
The Watchman
Ribbon of Darkness
Sundown
The Wreck

Triangle
Cotton Jenny
Restless
Home From the Forest (mentioned his friend Ronnie Hawkins)
In My Fashion
Rainy Day People
Fine as Fine Can Be
IYCRMM
Don Q
Baby Step Back
CRT (Said he didn't do this one at all last year)

ODR Encore (Changed "We're all here we've all got dates" to "It's a hot Sunday night
we've all got dates")

Glad to have been at the 14th of 14 shows. Thanks Gord!

Thanks Brink. "Selling" was a definite mistake on my part.

Wooden guitars are unfinished on the inside, so there's no varnish, lacquer, etc. to seal the wood. If there was, you wouldn't get the sound as well. The wood can absorb moisture. It can also lose moisture and crack. Most guitarists, particularly in the winter, have to humidify their instruments due to the drier heating in most buildings. Guitars like the temperature and the humidity to be in the 70s.

I've read of violins coming apart in very humid conditions because the wood swells and glue gets soft. I've known of symphony orchestras having very specific on stage temperature and humidty requirements for their performances.

Many folks just play out of tune and don't care. Gord does. One the reasons why we like him so much.

Very well said 12 String Mike about humidity & the guitar, also that Gord cares about the instruments being in perfect tune. He is a perfectionist.
