Default Gord's Songs About Summer.

There's at least 3 I know of.

Summer Love witch he did with Terry Whelan.

Summerside Of Life.

Summertime Dream.

What's your favorite?

My favorite - Summertime Dream!

Christian Island is a "summer" song - it does have references to summer, even though "summer" is not part of the title. Love this one too!

I'll have to think of others that evoke summer. Of course "Black Day in July" takes place in the summer, but that's a song in a whole different mood!

Summerside of Life sounded like it might of had something to do with Vietnam with mention of going off to fight but I'll have to listen to it though.

SD seems like it was just a simple song about the season and a lot of them are.

Of course I wonder what was the inspiration for it?

Some of the verses are hard to understand.

Thank you Mr Google!!

I am also proud that Gordon lived on PEI for a while. His song Summer side of life was written about our second city on PEI. Wendell Milton PEI
no it is not a city called Wendell Milton !!!
see:-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer...Edward_Island.
which "It is the second largest city in the province and the principal municipality for the western part of the island."

Haven't heard Summer love. I like both but my vote thank you John, is for summer side of life. Love it and yes I believe it references Vietnam.

i know you jest, john... I've been to Summerside... nothing to do with the song... and not about the summer eason ...yeah, war in prime years of life, imo... (we now do it the encore/tribute)

summertime dream has the hometown 'did she mention my name'/Orillia vibe to it, Imo

it's a great show starter...that would be my summer vibe pic... there is no actual stream at the Skinners ...but Gord paints so many images that lets our imaginations fill in the full visuals... there are likely many other summer vibe tunes of Gord's, eh ... we had a list of songs that mention months in lyrics...i don't recall Seasons poll.... Song for WINTER's night... Leaves of AUTUMN... hmm, SPRING?

oh, summer love isn't a Gord tune, but the duo did a nice cover.. gosh, Terry's been gone about 13 years... i remember hearing the news one sunny, summer's day... ironically, but it bring the thread back on topic

hope you and the kids are doing great, lisa

Thanks for the links jj and Affair. I like it - sad! - but I'd have to listen to it more.

I agree jj SSOL references war in general not just vietnam. It's timeless really. Both my husband and my sister, who like Gord but are not big fans, (separately) picked SSOL as a favorite years ago. Summertime Dream is so upbeat - love it too. Definitely a toe tapper Bend in the Water is also a summer song imo.

I'd love to hear your band's version of SSOL. I gave up hope of Gord doing it at a show after he said "it doesn't hold up well on stage" or something like that. At least we have the SSOL concert from the 70s to watch.

I miss all the fun threads and of course the quizzes of yesteryear! We are well, jj, thanks! I hope you and your family are too

I was just going though some old threads and I missed this part and if Gordon didn't release "That Summer Night" did anyone else ever get a hold of it?

I always thought ‘Summer Side of Life’ referenced Vietnam, in the same way Glen
Campbell’s ‘Galveston’ did.
