"Gordon Lightfoot remains in stable condition at Hamilton Health Sciences. His surgeon, Dr. Michael Marcaccio, says Mr. Lightfoot has made "good progress" over the past seven days."
That sounds a whole lot better to me than "holding his own"!

I agree. I'm sure the doctor didn't realize this, but "We're holding our own" was a radio message (the last one?) from the Captain of the Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10, 1975. "Good progress..." is more optimistic

I've heard some disturbing rumours (rumours meaning I heard from someone who knows someone who works at the hospital) that Gord is sicker than the family is letting on. I hope that what I hear is not true, because it is not a very optimistic report for fans. Has anyone else heard information or rumour that would support this?

I wouldn't be surprised if Gord's condition were more serious than anyone had stated explicitly. At the same time, I wouldn't put a great deal of stock in anything that came from a hospital employee who was so unprofessional as to leak confidential information about a patient. Furthermore, many urban legends have originated from "a person who was related to someone whose hairdresser cut the hair of the exwife of the anesthesiologist," etc..

How do smokers go in the ICU ???

We know that Gord is a fairly heavy smoker, it must be hell, not only is he really sick, ( maybe his condition is caused by smoking, as has been suggested in other posts ), but he would no doubt be suffering very badly from withdrawl as well.

All of our Prayers are with you Gord, for a speedy and complete recovery.

Keep Smiling... Ron

being in ICU will post likely force him to quit. my grandfather was in intensive care back in 1984 for 2 weeks and he was a heavy smoker. addictions were gone when he got out. i think the physical addiction only lasts for 21 days - aftre that it's your head (not body) that tells you to light up.
i'm pretty sure that if GL gets out, he will be a non smoker. when you've been puffing this long, the only thing that will make you quit is a health scare like this. even i've cut down in the last week or so!
