Default MACLEANS MAGAZINE ARTICLE & Lightfoot on Wikipedia

You can take Wikipedia for what it's worth, but they do often get things right. Gord's entry in Wikipedia has recently been updated with many references to specific albums. The info seems to be accurate, from what I know about Gord. However, it mentions that Gord married Elizabeth Moon in 1989. It gives the impression that the marriage is just hunky-dory and nothing's wrong. But we all know that isn't the case. There's a real protection of Gord on this message board, and that is to be expected and is the right thing to do. But can anyone here give a straight, factual depiction of the state of Gord and Elizabeth's marriage status.
In other words, when Gord or Elizabeth fill out the Canadian equivalent of their tax returns, do they check "married", "divorced" or "single". I don't think asking this question is prying too far..the marriage either exists or it doesn't.

I believe they are divorced and he now has a new love in his life. She's very nice and makes him happy. I hope he stays that way.

You left off 'separated' in your choices..lol
That's how some marriages don't exist...

Thanks for posting the scans - probably the most interesting article of the bunch.

I still remember reading that 1978 interview in Maclean's, right around when Endless Wire came out, and feeling rather suprised at the tone of the article. Lot of changes since then....

Well, it cleared up something I was wondering about. How Meredith had all that free time to attend occupy Toronto last fall. She dropped out of high school! In this day and age how can anyone get a meaningful job (if a job at all) without at least a high school diploma. Bizarre.

Lots of information in this article - Meredith (17) has dropped out of school, he and Elizabeth are divorced as of last year, and there is another woman in his life who lives in California:

"These days his work ethic involves daily trips to the gym when he’s not on the road; his motto is don’t stop now. “I’m optimistic about my future,” he says. “I don’t have a plan but things are moving forward. Keep working out, keep hanging with the family. Maybe get the girlfriend here.” That’s Kim Hasse, 51, who lives in California and works in film as a background player. “We met a long time ago but I didn’t even know she liked me until 3½ years ago,” he says, “I don’t want to lose her. She’s got a wonderful personality.”

All that really matters to me is that the man is happy. At least, thank goodness, he's not amongst the more scandalous & salacious celebrities that we're always hearing about. The fact that he's not in the papers all the time tells me that he seems to be handling his personal life pretty good.

Sometimes I wonder if coincidences mean anything. I'm not making this up... ...There's this guy that lives not too far from here. He used to work in a bank, used to play the drums, he plays guitar and sings, has the birthday Nov. 17th, and was married around the same length of time as Gord, got divorced, and a couple of years or so ago, remarried his ex-wife.

Yeah, thanks, interesting article, annie..:

“I would have stayed married,” he says. “I would have seen it right through to the end. Making a change like that at my age requires a lot of thought.”
