after uploading a picture imageshack gives you a selection of 8 links these two differ only in the case of the img bit which I suspect matters not a fig so here's a test

here's a link to a WEBCAM of the Toronto Skyline that refreshes every minute or so. You can check out other places as well.

One of the imageshack suplied code links does correctly link a large uploaded picture to a small thumbnail. So I will describe fully in my planned tutorial. meanwhile a test of combining the [url] and [img] codes

Click the small version above to see the full sized version in all its glory
This test posting was purely to verify that the thumbnail link technique rhat I then utilised in the general discussion topic about brushing against the famous as all of you who read this whilst awake no doubt realised.
Shut up Steve

OK I am now back at the drawing board:-

so to continue by taking Omer's CN Tower picture as an example, when I had originally uploaded it to image shack
I was presented with no less than 9 links

Links 1-4

links 5-9
and in my first posting to start this topic above I only showed four of them
However for that particular uploaded image, in "my images" at imageshack there are now 5 code examples which I have designated A to E below
1.Embeddable Code:
1.1 UBB for forums
A [IMG]http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6044/cntowertoronto3yx "forums"
1.2 "direct" i.e. straight standard HTMLwith a mouseover text attribute called for by the alt="the text" attribute
B <img src="http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6044/cntowertoronto3yx.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" />
2humbnail Code:For
2.1 HTML for sites
C <a href="http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cntowertoronto3yx.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6044/cntowertoronto3yx.th.jpg" border="0" /></a>
2.2 UBB for forums
D [ URL=http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cntowertoronto3yx.jpg][IMG] http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6044/cntowertoronto3yx.th.jpg[/IMG][/url]
Note in order to prevent the thumbnail in example d from appearing I have inserted a spaces between thed[ and url=http at the beginning and also between the [img] and the http half way along
omitted then it should be a clickable thumb

YES! Success on a plate!!
and the fifth is the basic site direct URL (or address)
E http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6...toronto3yx.jpg
So in effect they give three postable choices for use in UBB forums like these 3 corfid ones which all have UBB code enabled but not HTML
1.to show the picture only full sized use code A above
2. alternatively to show the thumbnail, automatically created and then also stored by image shack as a clickable link to the full sized picture use codeD and add a suitable instruction example "click this small thumbnail to opem the full sized picture "
3. If you only want to show the full sized picture's actual location by showing its URL/Address as a clickable hyperlink
use E and to be polite type in an instruction to click it
examples of these three obviously appear above.
Note that the "clever clogs" posting as "Fading Away" above jumped the gun and deduced that code A was in fact as I had showed in all 4 of the initial links that I had pasted in my opening posting but they all had the extra "th" included to signify that they referred to the thumbnail version so that all he had to do was copy and paste with the "th" omitted between the [img] and [/img] tags
Finally all of this is good basic research and practice to help me write my definitive picture manipulation tutorial of course

Sir Uncle John Fowles

Further to the above and as a test to avoid making a fool of myself in replying to Char's picture posting on the general forum

Great Char
No I do not think I ever saw the full sized version of that picture before
A very useful find thank you
I thought that this would be a useful example of using smaller images and thumbnails so, would everybody please bear with me a moment, (In view of the problems with dial-up-downloding I am using only small files to display
Char you obviously sussed out the original that you linked to was way too large to show here as it
1441 by 1801 pixels and the file size is a wapping 730,088 bytes
However I did suggest that if you had scanned it you could consider either the link to the uploaded picture file or use the imageshack thumbnail link.
It looks like you might have saved the picture instead from your quoted web location then uploaded it
and then pisplayed just the small thumbnail which on your upload is at:-
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/715...oot14xd.th.jpg

your displayed thumbnail is as the imageshack added on text shows presumably that you uploded a reduced size file that was only
27KB and is only 512 by 640 pixels
Now I have a suspicion that good pupil that you are you used photogadget first to make a smaller version of the original so that you could link to it via a thumbnail
Let me test that theory:-
the thumbnail you displayed is actually 122 by 167 pixels
and its file size a mere 3939 bytes

To demonstrate what I was getting at in my posting suggesting that you use your scanner and now in this posting I have saved the full sized file and then uploaded it myself to imageshack. On a dial up that obviously took quite a long time
but I eventually had it full sized at:-
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7...htfoot13wm.jpg
which was the last supplied link annotated "Direct link to image"
In fact the third link called "Thumbnail for forums (2)"
should display a much smaller thumbnail of (I checked it by going to "my images")
122 by 167 pixels 3947 bytes
and with an addesss of
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7...oot13wm.th.jpg
I'll display that here for comparision with what you displayed above

the same thumb using the third link code should now display that same thumb as a clickable link to the full sized picture

alternatively I then ventured down what I assumed was your route above
I made two smaller versions using photogadget
and mine came out at:-
1 using the top option "640x 480"
I got a file of 384 by 480 and 29,463 bytes
2 using the second option "800 by 600"
the file was then 480 by 600 and 43002 bytes.
Neither seem to be done the way yours was though so Ieft it at that for now.
OK end of my attempt to fill in the picture so to speak

I went to GOOGLE IMAGES-typed in GORDON LIGHTFOOT. The pic popped up on the first page. I opened it. Then saved it. I then went to image shack and up/downloaded it. the 'resize it' option was checked off. i copied and pasted the Thumbnail for forums link and posted it here.

Don't know what photogadget is.

Figured thumbnail was a good option and the link would be for the bigger picture...Never looked at any numbers/bytes.....

the pic was posted and the link is there....done.

OK I do carry out a GL google image check quite often but that particular picture had not clicked with me before
I now see a much shorter version at:-
http://www.cmw.net/images/HOF_Gordon_Lightfoot.jpg
which is 1804 by 1482 and 1,280,765 bytes
I apologise about "photogadget" I think It must be one of my as yet unpublished tutorials I have mentioned it in passing at least once
a most useful and easy to use piece of freeware in fact
