wow, that's the first song i know with "Tuktoyaktuk" as a lyric, lol

here is a gal's comments about accuracy (according to her anyhow):

I feel however, as one of the Canadian Girls that he is supposedly talking about, that I should say he is OFF on a couple of things.

Here is a list of the things he says in his song that are attributes or things that are attached to Canadian Girls.
She grew up watching hockey with her daddy on Saturday nights - True...well, I think so...I didn't keep track of the days.
He taught her how to tie her skates - Not sure...it may have been my mom.
Her brothers taught her how to fight - So very very true.
She can wear high heels or flannel - "Can" being the operative word here...not a fan of either.
She can look sexy in a toque - Definitely love rocking the toque, but that is more of a lazy quality so I don't have to brush my hair.
She likes snow storms and Gordon Lightfoot - Um, FALSE and only "If You Could Read My Mind"
Irresistible, lovable trouble though sometimes - I guess...definitely the third.
Likes to snow board - Are we talking about a wilderness girl? Cause I prefer the indoors.
Spends her summers out on a boat - Yeah definitely wilderness girl...definitely spend my summers on land...concrete land.
Thinks a perfect night out is a cabin - Thinks the perfect night out is not out in the woods with wild animals, bugs and drafty living areas.
Smell of coffee on a old wood stove - how long does that take to make? Hell no.
She won't admit she watched Degrassi - Cause I don't. How the mother eff did Degrassi make it in here?
She cries sometimes quiet - What does this even mean? That we don't loudly sob? ...this is true, unless I am watching Armageddon.
True north national treasure, she'd give her life for the Red and White - Pfft. Obviously.
So, he is somewhat on and somewhat off. I really just wanted to bitch him out for saying we all watch Degrassi. Gross.

XOXO
Jes...

LYRICS:

She grew up watching hockey
With her daddy on Saturday nights
He taught her how to tie her skates
Her brothers taught her how to fight
She can wear high heels or flannel
She can look sexy in a touque
She likes snow storms and Gordon Lightfoot
And if you’re lucky she’ll love you
Canadian girls, Canadian girls
Irresistable, lovable trouble those sometimes girls
We can travel the world
From New York to Paris France
But we're always gonna come back
Canadian girls
Baby she likes to snow board
Spends her summers out on a boat
Thinks a perfect night out is a cabin
Smell of coffee on an old wood stove
She won’t admit she watched Degrassi
She cries sometimes quiet
True northern national treasure
She'd give her life for Red and White
Canadian girls, Canadian girls

Irresistable, lovable trouble those sometimes girls
We can travel the world
From New York to Paris France
But we're always gonna come back
Canadian girls
Us boys we like our fishing
Our hockey and Ron McLean
We like moose head beer and white tail deer
Stompin Tom and the USA
We like our foreign ladies
Their accents are really nice
But there aint nothing like our northern girls
To keep us warm at night
Canadian girls, Canadian girls
Irresistible, lovable trouble those sometimes girls
We can travel the world
From New York to Paris France
But were always gonna come back
Canadian girls
From the mountains to the ocean sands
Tuktoyaktuk to Newfoundland
Yeah you keep us coming back
Canadian girls

i guess i didn't comment....i like it better than Paul Brandt's 'Canadian Man' video...but nothing will ever become a classic like American Woman or California Girls

I guess Gord, Tom, Ron nor Hayley Wickenheiser get any royalties, eh?

well, nice find...the video has tons of hit (i couldn't embed it) but it's new to me

CCMA tonight - Dean won a few awards and sang his song. His guitarist-Jason Barry was wearing a cool Lightfoot t-shirt!

good observation, char...i never noticed the shirt... i heard the opener but turned it all off when Taylor came on... she sure wears a funny-scrunchy look on her face...she might have said "hi canada" at one point...anywhoooo

that caroyln dawn johnston is a talented but regular human being...she keeps getting bigger, just like us regular folks....gord is regular too, but gets smaller

Canadian Girls is a great song. I've actually heard it on the radio up here. It must have something to do with being a mile away from Canada.

I like the song and his voice is fine too. Must be something to you Canadian girls, as a friend of mine went to Montreal back in the early 1960s and met a girl there. After he came back, they were on the telephone so much, that after 2 more trips back (over the next few months), they got married. Haven't seen either of them since, but I was amazed at how fast they got swept up together. Hope they are still fine.

I know a couple who met in Montreal where she was from and he was there visiting from the U.S. He played her some Lightfoot tunes and that was it...They've been married about 40 years now living in Georgia..

That is funny, must be something about those Montreal girls. My friends marriage was 50 years ago, so not likely the same person, but his name was Stan Stopskowski (Or spelling near that).

Wow that last name is a mouthful! Wonder he didn't change it

Like Joe Kostakovelpepperinski did

Remember when Terry Whelan jokingly introduced the writer of Summer Love in the Two Tones Village Corner LP?

People struggled with his name so he got permission to change it to

Steve Kostakovelpepperinski
