I am starting a new topic as my earlier one entitled "Friday's Chat Room" is now so long it takes an age to load
it is at

tonights advert follows plus news of a fan in Orillia-wherever the heck that is!!
We were only 7 in the chat room last week
I hope a few more venture in this evening
Yes it's Friday again!!!
so the chat room will be open this evening at 9pm EDT at http://www.rikschatroom.shorturl.com
I receive a BBC radio 2 newsletter every week and they announced an allegedly revised folk/acoustic section
I sometimes search (usually in vain) for anything on Gord on the Beeb site
and today was delighted to find that the BeeB-Beeb-Ceeb now have a "conversation forum"
at something they call h2g2 (Star wars maybe??)
(Powered by DNA, the BBC's community website engine)
there is a bio now of Gord submitted by a native of Orillia (name unknown)
He/she uses the somnolent nickname of "cromulent chipster"
the bio is at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F134067?thread=304002
he/she has also submitted a screed on Orillia at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A1135333
I noted that the bio includes links to
Wayne's site
val's site and
corfid so if he/she reads this advert either here or on the newsgroup
alt.music.lightfoot http://www.newsgroup.shorturl.com
(which reminds me somebody complained last week that my special short url
did not work for them, it never fails for me.Anyone else had a problem???)
now where was I???
oh yes
"chipster" if you see this perhaps you will reply or even show up
tonight in chat. It is always good to hear of fans in Orillia.
In case we all get to Massey again and decide to reinvade your city as was done in 1996 and 1999 at least

chat room tonight at 9pm EDT at http://www.rikschatroom.shorturl.com
Not very much to report on this week, because last friday only 6 people managed to look in to the chat ( I believe that Bill Hall tried and again failed to get in via the browser link as given above: which is all very odd and frustrating for him. I am not sure how he currently stands regarding the access via mIRC
but if you haven't tried it Bill it rarely causes problems for most of us
I am going to try my short url link again
Absolutely no problem for me
get the fully illustrated mIRC details at http://wwwmirc.shorturl.com

Hi!

I only learned of this site because John Fowles left me a note on h2g2 - the site where I've put a bio of Gord.

So I'll introduce myself - I'm Kyle and I'm a long time fan of Lightfoot. I grew up in Orillia, but well after Gord had moved away. We went to the same high school (wow you all say).

My parents' are big fans of Lightfoot - having followed him since he was playing at the Toronto teacher's college (where they were students at the time).

Anyways, h2g2 is not from Star Wars (but not that far) - it stands for hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. If you've read the books you'll know that the fictional guide is a like a galactic encyclopedia - the earthly one is an attempt to trap all sorts of knowledge (related to life, the universe, and everything) for everyone to enjoy.

I've rambled on here enough. I'll see you around.

Great to see a posting from native of Orillia Kyle even if you are an unregistered and anonymous fan
I have just replied to the h2g2 conversation
at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabas...?thread=322151
Hi Kyle aka chipster
I was pleased to not only find where my reply ended up but also to read your corfid Discussion
Forum message in the topic I began about the regular Friday evening Lightfoot chat sessions:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001708.html
I was also most interested (as a former employee of Rolls-Royce Canada Limited of Montreal in your enthousiasm
for the Avro Arrow) . For a while I was working at Air Canada's Dorval overhaul base alongside on ex-Orenda Engines
chap called Jim Seaton. Jim I seem to remember had had to offload his Brampton house at a vast
loss after the Arrow cancellation then moved to R-R for whom he had worked in England during the war I have perused the avroarrow.org site but ewas unable to find ant reference to you there on the site you said you started. As I was therfore unsure if I were to send an e-mail to ther wenbmaster whether it would reach you
By the Way Kyle you said in your corfid message that:-
"I only learned of this site because John Fowles left me a note on h2g2 - the site where I've put a bio of Gord."
I find that a strange comment because you had aleady referenced the corfid site in your Gordie Bio
I also note that although you are able (and of course did so) to post to a corfid topic "unregistered" this means that there is no clue to your e-mail addy
Perhaps you could now as previously suggested send me a private e-mail
As an inducement I have a very fine UK video "TSR2 The Untold Story" which I can convert to the North American NTSC standard if you are interested . It includes many in-flight film shots rescued from destruction by British Aerospace!!
lots of parallels to the Arrow!!
Afterthought. "gord" Sir Gerald Pudding and I have recently been boring those not interested with steam train pics. So here to flesh out the above discussion is a pair of aeroplane pics of wonderful aircraft both tragically cancelled and their remains mostly reduced to scrap-

1,The mighty British TSR2:-

2 The superficially similar Canadian Avro Arrow

Also note that as this topic led into the discovery of Kyle's Gord bio on the BBC site it is being developed here and not in the "small talk" forum

John,

The internet is a funny place - it almost seems like you are upset that there are seeming discrepancies between what is and what you think/thought. Maybe I can explain

You found no reference of me at avroarrow.org because that's not my site - mine is avro-arrow.org. Since it's linked properly from the h2g2 site I imagine it was just a bit of a typo. I had visited the corfid site before, but never the message boards.

Anyways, I have registered now, so that should make things better. I even chatted on IRC last Friday, too bad you couldn't make it.

I have now resent the original email that I fired off before. I hope it reaches you OK.

Fire off some steam train pics - that sounds good to me. I'm a fan of 6060 - a CN 4-6-2 mountain loco.

Many thanks Kyle for your response and e-mail received now that my hotmail inbox is capable again of receiving e-mails
Very interesting re train pics on another thread I had previously posted a pic of a CNR Diesel at Jasper and was thus delighted to find on http://www.6060.0rg this matching shot of your favo(u)rite in just about

That's a nice pic.

I saw 6060 when it was still operated by CN - on its farewell tour. It stopped in Washago - which is about 20 miles north of Orillia - on a cross canada tour.

Now it's operated by a group in Alberta - still steams. There are a couple of live steamers in Ontario here, but not many. The UK is the place to be for that. I spent a lovely day riding the SVR out of Kidderminster about a year or so ago.

Thanks for the pics.

Yes Kyle the UK preserved steam scene is something else. I have never been to the Severn Valley Railway although until a few years ago I was often in Worcestireshire on business. But I have been to the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore which was near my UK home. I might just start another topic in the small talk forum as this is probably boring all the Gord fans!!
Anyway Kyle after receiving your e-mail I tried twice to reply to your company e-mail addy but the hotmail postmaster (who is sometimes a bit dim admittedly!!) both times reported back that there was
"Invalid data in message" I do not understand that I had no swear words or sexual innuendo nor any attachments so I have no idea what that was all about. I'll try one more time with a very basic short message but if you do not see it tomorrow (Friday)perhaps you have a more understanding e-mail address (hotmail or yahoo perhaps??) that you can send me a message from

Firstly apologies for a lack of communication 2 weeks ago. We were about to leave for a weekend away and I simply did not find the time to poast an advert or apology for being away for 2 weeks
the last chat session we attended was 26 September with 6 chatters
I believe I missed Kyle from Orillia one of the last 2 weeks?
Hopefully this won't deter him from trying again. Perhaps tonight at 9pm EDT
in the usual place http://www.rikschatroom.shorturl.com
cheers

A merry crowd of 9 souls came in to the chat room last Friday
including Kyle (a.k.a. "the cromulent Chipster"-which he patiently explained was "cromulent"
from a word once used on The Simpsons and "chipster" because he worked with chips
(the micro variety, not those associated with fish)and that he was in fact born and educated in
some hick Ontarian town called Orillia.
I was pleased to meet him having discovered that he has been enterprising enough to upload a
decent bio on Gord on the mainly Lightfoot-ignorant BBC site at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A1148159
anyway it is Friday again so for anybody keen to test Ed Mullen's bartending skills please drop
in this evening at the regular time of 9pm EST
that is 2 AM GMT for anyone feeling sleepless in the UK right Gaby??
the direct (browser) link is:- http://www.rikschatroom.shorturl.com
or if you would like to read about the benefits and an illustrated installation tutorial
on the chat client mIRC go to:- http://www.mirc.shorturl.com
Whole posting and in case I forget later I will be away next Friday so please talk among yourselves!!!
