hello
I thought some time back that Oma posed the question "what is the story about in the song marie christine" or something to that effect. I am so sorry but if someone replied I totally missed that comment. Or on the other hand, perhaps, no one replied, but, let us beat this bush one more time. Has anyone got a clue about the song? Even a long shot? Has anyone ever asked him? What is it about? Any ideas?

That was me and no, no one responded yet. I tried a few search engines and came up dry. I figured this would be my last, best hope.
It was apparantly written on Lightfoot's trip through England, but what did base the tune on? Fact or fantasy?
Who can step up?

This is a tough one! I found the following on google: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Foru...ber150_199.htm
Scroll down to article number 164 to read the listing for the schooner Marie Christine. The other articles on this link do pertain to 19th century Quebec province as Gaspe and Quebec are mentioned frequently. No way to tell if this is the ship GL wrote about. Anyone else turn up anything more concrete?

best regards,
closetcanadian

closet canadian'
ok, this is awesome. so there must be some legend of "marie christine" out there.
how did you ever uncover this? this information highway has a lot of info but, this is pretty obscure...
I know wonderful fellow lighthouse-lover, who is Canadian and knows a lot about different lighthouse wrecks. They are chronicled in mariners' museums and other places like that...sounds like a place GL would find his info from. I'll be back.
thanks so much for your endeavors closetcanadian,

gwen,

You're very welcome! I got lucky on the google search. Please keep us advised of any developments in your quest. Now you've piqued my interest - think I'll pull out the "Back Here on Earth" album and have a listen!

good luck!

Wow! That's some good sleuthing.

I am eager to hear anyone else's input on
the Marie Christine backstory.

Is there anyone who has a contact that might
be able to get the scoop from the horse's
(that is, the songwriter's) mouth?
