Sunday Night in Aurora, IL

We drove all the way from the Twin Cities so of course, we planned to stay for both concerts. Here is the set list for Sunday August 14:

First Set: GL had on a white shirt, burgundy vest, black dress pants, and black boots.

Second Set: Blue Shirt, same vest, Black Jeans and those Pat Boone white boots.

The theatre was only about 3/4 full with a lot of empty balcony seats. The art work inside this theatre was beyond exquisite. Really gorgeous job and probably lots of $$ went into the project.

Interesting remarks: Before Harmony, GL said that it was written for a "erstwhile" woman in 2000. Still trying to figure out what that means. Thought the song was more about losing the ability to compose a melody but there must be far more there.

Before Morning Glory he talked about a girlfriend he had in West Palm Beach. Someone in the crowd, which was more rowdy than the previous night, yelled something out about loving her at least once. GL shut the idiot up by mentioning that he and the girlfriend had a son together, Eric Lightfoot.

The next song was "Clouds of Loneliness" and he talked about how the bad luck (presumably failed love life) just keeps going.

GL and the band stayed in the Comfort Suites where we stayed about 5 blocks from the theatre. We talked to Barry Keane in the lobby early Sunday afternoon as GL was at the front desk checking out. Barry said that very likely Minnesota will be on the tour schedule for next year. Barry mentioned his wife was from the Twin Cities. We were also treated to GL walking in front of us in the parking lot. He climbed into a car with Rick Haynes driving and they pulled away in an ordinary sedan car with Illinois plates. (Maybe for a sound check or lunch??) What an ordinary, humble guy.

We had a great time on the weekend. Several reviewers will likely be critical of GL's voice which by the end of Sunday's concert was getting noticeably hoarse. We have aged with him and to expect his trademark mid-1970's voice is a denial of reality. But we went to the concerts thankful that he was even able to perform again. The highlight of the night was that he performed my wife's favorite: "Song for A Winter's Night" by request. Pays to leave requests under his mike at intermission.

You folks out east...get ready. You're in for a treat !!

Thanks John, great info there. I have a hard time hearing him when he talks, so thanks for the bits about songs. I haope he plays Minnesota again next year, would give me a great excuse to go back for a reunion with family, friends from school and meet new Lightfoot friends. By the set list looks as if you got a full night. thanks again

Sounds like a wonderful evening! I hope they make it to Minnesota next year, as I would really love for my daughter to get to see him. If he comes to Minnesota, we WILL be there. It would also be great to meet some Lightfoot friends from Minnesota...and hey, Deb, if you make it back we *must* meet up somewhere!

Thanks for the tidbits about what he was saying. I was far enough back that I couldn't really hear what he was saying exactly. I wished for Song For a Winter's Night but I can't complain. What a lovely night it was.

erstwhile: In the past; at a former time; formerly.

Morning Glory is one of my absolute favorites. He didn't do it the night I was at Massey, so I'm really hoping for it in NYC.

Gord just needs to actually face the mic when he's talking. I noticed at Massey that we'd miss half of what he said, 'cause he'd kinda turn sideways as he was chatting.

He has said in the last year or so that in 2000 he was going through emotional ups and downs in his relationship/marriage when he wrote most of the Harmony album. I'd imagine that is the reference he's making.
