apparently this is from a concert in Duluth MN yesterday
see:-
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/wilco/...-7bd962b4.html
featuring the British guitarist Richard Thompson (once of Fairport Convention)
I noted that you cannot actually see the band on stage in this unenterprisingly shot video
see also:-

(the show was closed by a Minnesotan chap named Dylan
which is probably how Mende got to hear of it)

in that case it is a shame they did not in advance invite Bob to join them on stage to do the Wreck, No on second thoughts good job they did not, given that the song is already quite enough of a dirge!!
I just googled for Bob Dylan Edmund Fitzgerald and was rewarded by a nice GL trivia page at:-
http://www.funtrivia.com/en/Music/Li...don-10488.html
sample question
Gordon Lightfoot credits another very successful musician with being his largest musical influence.
Which wiry-haired singer-songwriter of Jewish ancestry does Gord credit as being his number one 'musical peer'?
(this artist doesn't use his real surname)
well known answer
Bob Dylan. Gord has rubbed elbows with many great artists throughout his career, and credits many with being driving forces that motivated him in his musical career. Some of those he names are; John Denver, Jim Croce, Eric Clapton, and of course, Bob Dylan being his favourite musical personality. Dylan once said, "Gordon Lightfoot, every time I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever". One of Gord's proudest moments in his musical career was when Bob Dylan appeared at the 1986 Juno Awards to present him with the award of induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame

John goes for the bravery award with :

"..... in that case it is a shame they did not in advance invite Bob to join them on stage to do the Wreck, No on second thoughts good job they did not, given that the song is already quite enough of a dirge!! "

Well that takes guts on this website to label that song with that term . (Agree about Dylans "voice " though - a half strangled cat would sound better ! ) Full marks for bravery though . I'd say it is a genuine minority position .

It's evident how many reverred songs by some on here are among the least liked by others and vice versa .
For mine I wouldn't rate "IYCRMM" or "Beautiful" in my top 40 of his songs.
"The dirge" which I heard played maybe twice on the radio was what originally got me to buy my first GL album ("Summertime Dream"). In the long run that song has cost me quite a bit of money as it became something of a bucket list obsession to see the band play. Come to think of it this website has cost me plenty too as I had never heard of Massey Hall previously and its a fair bit further away than some other options.
When bankruptcy proceedings are instituted against me I think I will name the dirge and Corfid as major contributing factors !

cheers

PS. A tip for the potential travellers : The $Aus. has depreciated by more than 10% over the last 12 months so if you are looking for an O/S holiday destination, Aus. is far more affordable than it was over the preceding few years .
