Hi everybody,
I don't know if this was already posted or not. You can watch web casts of all the Live 8 concerts, including the Barrie show on AOL's music site. The URL is http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now

Just click the Toronto link. You can also watch some of the other concerts. Right now I'm watching REM from London.

Better hurry if you want to see the Toronto show. It starts at 11:30 Eastern, in just 11 minutes.

According to Char, Gord was scheduled for around 4pm. Blue Rodeo is on now. Better hurry up and connect!

Arrrrgghh! Would you believe my modem reset itself at the end of Blue Rodeo, forcing me to reboot and then reconnect to the website! I came in at the middle of IYCRMM. I guess I'll have to catch a rebroadcast but it just isn't the same.

Grrrr. Impeccable timing, these machines have.

(Don't get me wrong -- I realize catching a rebroadcast is nothing in comparison to the cause behind these shows! How lucky I am to have a computer to complain about!)

Update from the Toronto Star:

5:14 p.m.

After three hours patiently waiting beside the media tent, Sarah Watson now has the perfect birthday gift for her father — a signed picture of folk legend Gordon Lightfoot.

“I can’t believe I actually met him,” said the 30-year-old Toronto woman just moments afterward.

“You have no idea how excited I am.”

Watson plans on giving her father, Russ, the picture on his upcoming birthday.

Hope we didn’t spoil the surprise. *

it is just f...ing frustrating. For starters my PC's stoopid sound card has gone on strike so I can hear sweet nothing, to cap that although
I can click on the Toronto link on AOL all I get is an unchanging black screen and no videpo picture at all at all. probably due to
not having broadband

They're wrapping it up now (8 pm) with Neil Young, who's singing "Four Strong Winds" with his wife, and "When God Made Me" with a choir. They're filing out for a finale with Neil leading just about everybody, including Gord, in "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World." The finale was "O Canada."

And there's a message on the site that reads:
"Molson Park played host to an eclectic lineup of superstar artists, including Simple Plan, Bryan Adams, Jet, Celine Dion, Barenaked Ladies and Neil Young. Enjoy the looping broadcast of the concert. Come back soon to watch the entire show, song by song, on demand."

When I had it on they were going between London and Philly. I'm not sure we got Toronto. Wish I could see it.

Neil was great. He sang 4 Strong Winds with his wife and a beautiful song
"When God Made Me" and he played the piano accompanied by a choir. Most of
the performers joined him on stage and it seemed like he was going to sing
"Helpless" judging by what Dan Aykroyd said about Neil writing an anthem for
Ontario but running overtime they all sang "Livin' In The Free World.(as
opposed to Rockin' in the Free world.") instead.Gord rocked out and was
grinning ear to ear! Too funny! I guess it just seemed so chaotic to him on
stage compared to the Lightfoot shows!
Everyone then sang the Canadian National Anthem...very nice to hear en masse
like that.
It was so wonderful to see him and I can't wait until next Sunday at
Mariposa!!
yeehaw!

Admittedly, there's something incongruous about seeing Gordon Lightfoot on such a large stage, especially one that will soon be occupied by Motley Crue. And yet, standing there alone, with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, Gord is most definitely in his element. The crowd, which in some areas skews very young, is reverent. Gord's delicate and timeless ballads (”If You Could Read My Mind” among them) ring out with elegance. How can Our Lady Peace possibly hope to follow up?

Thanks, Next Saturday, for the photo links. Our boy looks good! I saw the very end and saw him standing up there on stage behind Neil Young. All right! Tomorrow, I'll watch more of the show. I was positively giddy watching as much as I could today. Great concert! Great cause. Hope you all signed your names...

My sympathies. My computer stalled out and shut down when I tried to watch. Did the same thing when I tried to listen to the radio version. Finally gave up. Hate AOL.

[/QUOTE]I wish I had known "Our Lady Peace" was the band that followed Charzo. I have one of their CDs. They are a great band. They do a beautiful song called "Bring back the sun". I will have to check out the replays.

There was one short view of Gord backstage talking to someone who looked very much like his wife...
