Default Lightfoot tour dates-spring 2011

Lightfoot's work not only stands the test of time, it transcends it.

GORDON LIGHTFOOT
Announces His Ontario Touring Schedule For Spring of 2011!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, ON, Monday, August 9th, 2010 -- “The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down…” are lyrics from one of his most famous ballads, but they just as easily could be used to describe the phenomenal career of iconic singer-songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot. Fellow Canadian, Robbie Robertson calls him a national treasure, while millions of fans the world over continue to be touched by Gordon Lightfoot’s remarkable contributions to music history. Lightfoot, who celebrates his 72nd birthday later this year, shows no signs of slowing down. This Spring, Lightfoot will appear in a selection of Ontario cities, including a stop at Toronto’s Massey Hall, where his legacy includes the honour of having made the most solo appearances at the Hall of any performer. Tickets for the Massey Hall performance go on-sale to the public on Monday, August 16, 2010.

The first stop on Lightfoot’s Ontario Spring 2011 Tour kicks off on May 19th at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, and moves onto the Cornwall Civic Complex on May 20th, Brockville Memorial Civic Centre on May 21st, The SPC Centre in Napanee on May 22nd, and concludes with a 4-day residency at Toronto’s Massey Hall beginning on May 25th. Please see full tour details below.

Born November 17, 1938 in Orillia, Ontario Gordon Lightfoot studied at Los Angeles’ Westlake College of Music. He returned to Canada in the early 1960s and began performing at the “Riverboat” during Toronto's fabled folk scene. In 1966, his debut album Lightfoot! was released. Tracks such as For Lovin' Me, Early Mornin' Rain, Steel Rail Blues and Ribbon of Darkness brought him international recognition as a songwriter. Cover versions of his songs were recorded by artists such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, until 1971 when his own version of If You Could Read My Mind became a Top Ten hit. In 1974, his classic single, Sundown, went to No.1 on the American charts, followed two years later by The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, inspired by a Newsweek magazine article; it reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard charts. By the 1990s he was mostly touring, giving just fifty concerts a year by 1998, mainly in North America, while he released two albums in the period. In 2004, he released his 20th album Harmony, and appeared as a featured guest on Canadian Idol.
Lightfoot’s live performances never disappoint the legions of devoted fans who consistently pack concert halls for a chance to hear the beloved troubadour deliver the time-defying songs that have earned him an international reputation as one of the most anticipated live performers. During his illustrious career he has won 15 Juno Awards and been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2001. In May 2003 was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario, and in 2004 was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Gordon Lightfoot will make a rare television appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on October 8, 2010.
