Default PRESS RELEASE-Fall Canadian Tour - 2017

PRESS RELEASE: GORDON LIGHTFOOT’s 2017 FALL TOUR
MARKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST CROSS-CANADA TOUR AND PREMIERE OF “CANADIAN RAILROAD TRILOGY”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, ON September 26, 2017 – Fifty years ago, Gordon Lightfoot wrote one of his best-loved songs, “Canadian Railroad Trilogy,” and performed it for the first time on New Year’s Day 1967, in honour of Canada’s centennial year. Later that same year he would embark on his first cross-Canada tour. Next month the 79-year-old singer-songwriter will once again make his way “across this mighty land” performing for the legions of devoted fans who don’t want to miss a chance to see this national treasure, one more time.

Gordon Lightfoot’s Fall 2017 tour gets underway on October 21. Tickets are now on sale for all dates which include two nights in Victoria, BC (Oct. 23 & 24), Kelowna, BC (Oct. 26); Saskatoon, SK (Oct. 31); and Thunder Bay, ON (Nov. 4). A full tour schedule follows below.

Beloved by music fans around the world, Gordon Lightfoot holds international recognition as a singer and songwriter, and cover versions of his songs have been recorded by artists including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand and Johnny Cash. In 1971 he earned his first Top Ten hit when If You Could Read My Mind became an international sensation and in 1974, his single Sundown went to number one on the American charts, followed two years later by The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – it reached number two on the U.S. Billboard charts.

He continues to perform extensively throughout the United States and Canada.

Gordon Lightfoot has won 15 Juno Awards and has been nominated for five Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. In May 2003, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario. In 2004 he was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2012 into the U.S. Songwriters Hall of Fame.
