Default Come With Me to Joliet, Illinois on 9/28/08

Hello!

I have sadly been unable thus far to participate in Gordquest 2008. However...I am seriously considering attending the Joliet, IL, concert on September 28th. It will be a 5+ hour drive one way from my west-central Wisconsin home, and my husband is not interested in traveling that far. I am wondering if any of you will be attending or even better yet, would like to travel there and attend with me.

I believe I'm going to go ahead and purchase 2 tickets, and I'm sure can always find someone to come along, but I've found the experience so much better when sharing it with a fellow Lighthead.

Any possible takers?

- Gitchigumee

I'm lookin seriously at that show..
Not sure if I'll have Gordmates on this one or be flyin solo..
but I notice Joliet is on the Amtrak train line..
I'm thinkin seriously (at, GULP!, 4 bucks a gallon?.. or perhaps 5 by September!?)..
that the train would be a wonderful way to see this show..
Minneapolis - Chicago - Joliet..
10 hours.. kick back, relax, look out the window..
no muss, no fuss, no petro-bill, no Chi-town traffic drudgery, etc.?..
I like it..

but, anyway..
west-central WI.?..
might consider the train yourself..

$92 round trip for me on Amtrak, plus concert ticket & 1 night's stay at hotel. Hmmm...

Ya..
I drove all the way to Aurora one year to see the guys, and (even though you bypass Chicago goin down I-39 to the west) I felt really dumb when I got to the motel (the band were staying there too we found out as we arrived and saw the purple bus right outside our window etc.) and saw the Amtrak train station 50 yards from our motel..
I thought, "Why didn't we just take the train!? That would be so cool!)..
Massey '09?.. I'm goin by train!..

(Note: Aurora was really fun..
I bet Joliet's a town allot like it..
never been myself)..

I'm considering this concert, but probably won't decide until last minute. I'll definitely be at the two Michigan shows, and am just not sure I'll be able to manage the extra time away from home for this additional one. FYI, the town of Joliet is nothing like Aurora.......

I'm seriously considering Joliet also...
At this point I'd say I'm 50/50 on it. Money is still tight in '08' and I've already got Peoria in earlier this year. I guess I'm just looking for that "I'm In!" motivation. Maybe knowing other corfidians will be present will push me the rest of the way in??? We'll see. I just don't want to be in row "Y" like Peoria! Thank God for the binoculars!!!

I have decided that I AM GOING to the Joliet concert! Although my husband has said NO , I have a friend who is considering , and even if she declines , I have a 13-yr-old daughter that I am positive would think it cool to go by train. I called the box office and they told me tickets would go on sale in mid-June. Yay! they haven't started selling tickets yet!

As always, I am hopefully that some of you DO decide to go, so I can meet ya!!!

Sounds great! I had met Kerstin last year briefly but it will be great to see her again and to meet the rest of you groupies!!

Now how about it, JR, Peter Bro, Moosedog....???? Nudge, nudge, nudge. Tickets are not on sale yet, so we'll have first dibs and NOT be in Row Y!

Gitch,

Did you and I meet? Maybe you saw my sister some where other than a concert. Kerstin would not go to a Lightfoot concert without me. I will not be talking to Kerstin for a few days or I would ask her.

Sorry, I got Claudia and Kerstin mixed up. I have NOT met Kersten, or you either Rose so it will be awesome to meet you both. Now if we could just get CLAUDIA to come to Joliet also, who by the way is not my sister, but on second thought, maybe I should ask my sister, who is named neither Kerstin nor Claudia, but Mary, to come along just to make it even more confusing!!!

Yikes!

Not to worry Gitchigumee. I will be in Joliet with Ken (my wonderful husband), and my two sisters (Kerstin and Kathy). Maybe we can get Claudia to join us too.

The tickets for Joliet go on sale June 27th, just in case you didn't know.

Looking forward to sharing special time with some very special corfid people.

Was having a repair done on my car today - and while waiting, was reading a book and watching an infomercial-type show that was playing on the TV. One of those things that repeats over and over -so I was there long enough to watch it 3 x's.

There was a segment on Rte 66 and Joliet, Ill. When a part about the Rialto came up....WOW. What a beautiful theater!!!! The home of Al Jolson, and Liberace quoted as saying, "Finally, a theater that matches my wardrobe!". The show included a brief tour of the interior, highlighting the detail of the ceiling and a magnificant cut-crystal chandalier.

I hadn't considered going but after seeing this *sigh*

Did I hear my name...????

Truth is, I was actually seriously looking at this show and would love nothing more than to join...

But since I already planned to catch three of the California concerts and to make it a loong weekend....I can't see how I could possibly justify the Joliet show, yikes... As much as I would love to try the train idea...

But I certainly will hook up with DSR, Kathy & Kerstin in California - barely three weeks later.

Just an update. I've booked the train ticket & hotel for Saturday & Sunday night for myself and my 13-yr-old daughter. Now just waiting 'til the concert tickets go on sale at 9 AM on June 27th.

Anyone have any idea if there is anything else to do in Joliet besides going to car races and gambling? Specifically, what my daughter might enjoy. Any tips are much appreciated, as we will have all day Sunday to spend sightseeing prior to the concert Sunday night.

Hope to see some of you at the concert!

Neither of us have been on a train before. It should be quite an adventure for Little Gitch and I, and bring us even closer to Gord's music (and each other). I will most definitely share the story with you all once it is written.

Hi Wyn, welcome to Corfid! Maybe we can plan on meeting before the concert or during intermission?!

Any suggestions for activities my daughter and I could do or sites we could see in Joliet?

Gitchigumee-
Where are you staying in Joliet? The hotel at Harrah's is about 3 blocks from the theatre, but the other available hotels that I know of are more out by the highway.

Downtown Joliet tends to be a bit quiet except for the casino and Harrah's! Many shops have left the area for the outlying malls.

Some restaurants have left, but others are opening. There is a new restaurant called Vertigo that has just opened in a spot where about 3 other places have been in business....hope this one makes it. A really great restaurant called Barolo is a block from the theatre but I have heard rumblings that they are moving out of town sometime in the fall. If they are in business, I would undoubtably be there before the concert.

I'm not sure what to recommend to you and your daughter. If you have a car, you have more options. There is a nice historical museum about 2 blocks from the theatre, but it is regional and deals with the history of Joliet and Route 66.

Hi Wyn,

We are staying in one of the outlying hotels, and will be taking a cab to the concert and anywhere else we decide to go. I am wondering if Joliet has any parks, nature preserves or scenic areas which we might visit. Possibly some hiking trails? Oftentimes we have these places in our own back yard but never think of visiting them. I am hopefuly that you can lead us in the right direction.

The pre-sale begins tomorrow for Rialto Square Theatre members, and although I am not one, I am going to give it a shot and try to hack my way through. Otherwise, it's Friday at 8:00 AM.

- Gitch

P.S. I still haven't told my hubby.

Gitchigumee:
You are right about not knowing what is right in our own back yards sometimes!

Pilcher Park and the Barber Horticulture Center kind of come to mind. I know that my husband and I have run a 5K race out at that park before and it was really beautiful. Here is a link to the Joliet park district's site:
http://www.jolietpark.org/Facilities/index.php

Here is also a link for the Forest Preserve District in the area.
http://www.fpdwc.org/sitemap.cfm

I go to the Rock Run Preserve (scroll down a ways to see the various preserves listed) only because it is very close to my house. I know that the paths are very well maintained.

Hope some of this helps!
