All right all you Lightfoot fans ,I'm finally here with the
seeings and singings of the Phoenix Celebrity Theatre Show.
First oddity to tell you about : I saw the group Ambrosia at this venue in 1980 at age 12 and...despite all the concerts I've seen in town since ,this is my first show there since 1980!
I also got out from work at 5 , went home, ate ,
spent time with my love and then got to the theater by 7:30.
I had my cell phone with me (a REAL cell phone I got in November) . Texted people before and then settled into my seat ) stage right from Gordon but a bit far back.
Using the phones recorder , instead of pen & paper , I recorded the songs as they started (or some all the way through) so I'd have them in order.
Only sorry to say , they're only as good
as I saw from there, fuzzy but the sound is ok.
So here now is the list of songs that Gordon did this past St. Patrick's Day :
The Watchman's Gone
Too Many Clues In This Room
Sweet Guinevere
Never Too Close
14 Karat Gold
Let It Ride
I'd Rather Press On
Beautiful
Much To My Surprise
Cold On The Shoulder
(Next 3 are a medley)
Carefeee Highway
Did She Mention My Name
Ribbon Of Darkness
Sundown
(Intermission)
Race Among The Ruins
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Christian Island
Shadows
Rainy Day People
A Painter Passing Through
If You Could Read My Mind
Restless
Baby Step Back
Early Morning Rain
Waiting For You
Okay , there you have it , 24 songs and
another very good night with Gordon Lightfoot.
Out of the list I'd say he sounded best on (in order) Wreck , Christian Island , Shadows ,Restless .Cold On The Shoulder and 14 Karat Gold .
He was great on the other songs too and I swaer , sometimes I thought I could hear his original voice comethrough for a moment in some these.
Gordon also had his usual humor , such as , "This song is called
meet my by the rocks baby and I'll get a little Boulder with you." LOL!
The only mild distractions ,people walking around during some songs , crushing beer cans and one guy about 8 rows over clapping during a song that , at the moment , was supposed to be quiet from the audience.
Aside from these , the show was a Five Star across the board .
The first set was 55 minutes the intermission 20 and set 2 for 45 minutes. 8 to 10pm.
The lights came up , we all departed. One lady had
heard me sing along and said , You sing just like him". (I blushed).
and my brother Frank had arrived to pick me up andtake me home. No time for meet and greet , if Gordon did , I had to get up at 7am for work.
Like Gordon said in his January 2007 show
at the Orpheum ..."Nothing like a Sunday."
Good night all.
