While clearing out last Sunday's Newark,New Jersey newspaper I was much struck by the headline to an article which said
"But can you release goldfish whilst smoking?"
wnich I found was based on an entertaining website:-

whose opening page title is:-
"Dumb Laws, Stupid Laws: Making lawyers go crazy since 1998!"
The article was nominally and primarily on the enforcability of the new NJ law whereby we are the 11th state to ban smoking in public (and even within 25 feet of any public building, except the hallowed casinos on Atlantic City of course)
It also listed a number of absurd laws in NJ. including:-
"You cannot pump your own gas"
"You may not slurp your soup"
"It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder"
and in nearby Elizabeth
"It is forbidden for a woman, on a Sunday, to walk down Broad Street without wearing a petticoat"
and in Newark itself:-
"It is illegal to sell ice cream after 6pm, unless the customer has a note from his doctor"
The headline was based on another law that is not listed on:-

In Ontario (CA):-

in San Diego apparently:-
"It is illegal to shoot jackrabbits from the back of a streetcar."
and quite rightly:-
"The owners of houses with Christmas lights on them past February second may be fined up to $250."
Not forgetting colourful colourado
In Boulder:-
"It is illegal to permit one's llama to graze on city property"
In Denver:-
"You may not drive a black car on Sundays."
in Sterling:-
"Cats may not run loose without having been fit(ted) with a taillight"
