Carrot Top???? He's quite a piece of work, alright-- his hair even clashes with the red in the Canadian flag!

Boy,was this topic far down on the threads list! 3 months already? Anyway,I'm posting in here today because last night I was watching an episode of 3's Company from 1982 in which Janet buys a blonde wig to make herself more appealing to men. She meets a guy named Bill and he likes her at first but then Janet turns dumb blonde and he dumps her. The man playing Bill is an actor named Robert Swick and aside from being a 99% Gordon Lightfoot twin (think Summer Side LP Cover) he has a vocal tone that is nearly equal to Gord's. I saw this on Nick at Nite and it "might" be on again this evening. If it is watch for it and see if you agree or not. I only hope he's still living, after all,it was 21 years ago. He may still look mostly the same, you never know. It's been the B! Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown!

I've always told my wife that Eric from the Y and R and Clint remind me of Gordon.[I've always wondered about the Y and R part in Restless] As far as capturing style, poise etc.,I think either one could do it easily and present day looks could be a tossup. If I had to pick one, I would say ,take away Clint's .44 and replace it with a D-18 and "take one". Iron.....smell the popcorn, buttered please thank you....

That fella who plays Aragon in the "Lord of the Rings" movie. I think he's fair-haired in real life, too.

What about Sam Shepard as the current, 'older' Gord?

Also, I have thought about this, and what would make the movie different from other bio pics, which, yes, usually are awful, is that one of the main characters, besides Gord, but equal it him, is Canada himself. You can't separate his music, nor the man from Canada, and it needs to be celebrated in the film, too. It made him what he is, influenced him, provided succor and inspiration, motivation, healing... Canada has been an endless well for Gord's talent.
So the film would have to be a bit 'bigger' than just a retelling of the statistics of his life.

Does that make ANY sense?

Yes,Old Dan that makes perfect sense to me. If this bi-opic were made, just focusing on Gordon Lightfoot alone would only be telling 1/2 the story. Showing the overall Canadian perspective would definetly make it complete. We all know here on this site that Gord is held in such high regard there that when the 1 time group Northern Lights, made up of famous singers from Canada, recorded Tears Are Not Enough for African Relief Funding,Gordon was naturally their first choice to be in the project and sing the very 1st verse of the song. I knew there was some fact missing from this topic and Old Dan hit the nail on the head! Thanks, man! Now that we have all of these factors in place,I wonder who we should contact to take up this aspiration of a project. Personally,I would choose Ron Howard. Not just because he won an Oscar(c) last year but because of why he won it. His direction of,"A Beautiful Mind", brought out a perfectly realized portrail of the real life main character. I know Mr. Howard would bring out the humanity and overall persona of GL and would very evenly work in the Canadian point of view. Anyone agree? Let it be known. It's been the B! Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown! (Let's see, what to wear to the Academy Awards...hmmm.....

Since there is another GL movie topic,I thought I'd bring the original back up. Strictly for comparisons. Later!

I don't know about Knightmoves but I was in U2's,"Rattle and Hum". (Well,me and a couple thousand concert goers at ASU's Sun devil Stadium on Dec 19th,1987!) I can however pick myself out of the audience. I can't literally be seen but the radio I brought with me is reflected in the crowd, that'show I know. Oh,and the band was there too. $5 for a ticket! How cool is that? Latre!

Well it's 9 months later now and it's been a year and 5 months since i brought this up.

...but tonight while watching a M*A*S*H re-run I figured out who else could play him and have the strongest resemblence. Mike Farrell who played B.J. on the show after he grew that moustache.

Check out LSH's current thread with her pics and sketch of Gordon and then (to anyone who can find a pic to put up here)put a picture of Farrell next to one of them.

I still contend Will Farrell could play the young one and now Mike Farrell (no relation) could truly play the older one. He's about the same age as GL,I believe. I never noticed the similarities until tonight.

If we could only find someone inteested enough in doing a film like this. Been me. Later

could truly play the older one. He's about the same age as GL,I believe. I never noticed the similarities until tonight.

Watchman,I think with a bit of Hollywood's special effects make up,Mike could look like he does now but Laurel did have a point about him being too tall, although they can change that these days too. I still contend tha Will F. could be Gord, with the right make up and a bit of weight loss.

Watch the episode of MASH though, where Winchester refuses to talk and Pierce & BJ try to make him. I think he (Mike) looked like him then.

Thanks for the pics John! I appreciate it because I just cannot get the hang of cut & paste or whatever. ...and I've had this PC for 5 months now! Later!

As someone said before, I think A.J. would be the closest match. Just a little work on that accent and toss the hat!

dude, he's short. He's not a dwarf in terms of talent etc. But if he stands more than 5'5", I'm not female!! And with age and illness, I bet he's down to like 5'4".

I think Gordon's old LP{ covers just make him "look" tall. Listning to "Complete Greatest Hits as I type this,up to "Cotton Jenny". Truth be told, when i met GL,I was surprised that I was taller than him (6'0)! I always thought he would be taller too if i met him. Ya never know do you?

Really! He looks a lot taller. Wow! I'm 5'5" maybe I could do the part. Could you draw me a Gord face and lip-sync the lyrics? lol....

If I were famous and shorter than women,I'd arrange it that way too.

For some reason,on the subject of the thread,Gerald Macreany just came to mind! You know (Simon & Simon / Major Dad)?
Or is he too tall too? Boy,if this keeps up,we may end up casting Don Knotts! (Oh,wait...too old.)
