Brilliant sleuthing SM now we all know that your "S" is for Sherlock
I was trying to find that page only yesterday to check the liner note's reference to Carefree Highway
I remembered that last year it was found that Rhino in revising their original Songbook page had omitted all the links
to the contents etc. Then Valerie found that the actual pages (including the one you found are still there)
but despite a lengthy search here to try to find the topic I failed. so thanx a bunch SM

A fine pub near Trafalgar Square in London that I still recall imbibing at all those years ago as an undergraduate

Actually John, someone else deserves the credit for finding those pages. I can't remember who it was! Maybe Auburn Annie?

ypu are right Val it was Annie in an August 2003 reply to http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001650.html
although I now find that I also had quoted the URL in topic http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001859.html in MNovember 2003
as had you even earlier February 2002 in topic http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000870.html
However I didn't think I was dreaming that you posted to a topic comments about Rhino
having revised their page and omitted the links I tried various searches and eventually found your reply to my point:-
"the links to the text pages and probably the pages themselves have disappeared" where you said:-
"Actually, the pages haven't disappeared. When they redesigned their site, the links disappeared. However, somebody (can't
remember who) had a direct link to them and the pages are there to this day. I would credit the alert person who kept the
link, but I don't remember who it was!"
the topic was:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002136.html
from the above the credit falls to you Val in fact

Jim I doubt if Ed who rarely if ever reads corfid will ever be in a mood to put up any more mp3s on his site:-

http://www.edmullen.net
he deleted them all.
Regarding the Rhino site I think it worth repeating the booklet links that I posted on one of the topics I have listed above:-

I also saved the links to use when I get around to making a dummy entry page for the Rhino site in my long-planned webring revamp: This is what I saved (text file contents):-

oops, i mislead probably, john
i meant mp3s of fans playing and signing GL tunes (i hope he leaves them there and that all is cool with EMP re that sort of thing?)

cathy's site has some great ones (covers) also, not too many other places i know of for those...lots of talents out there, but more importantly lots of passion and laffs

some guy from NY threatened to sue me years ago after i posted something and it's kept me in a shell ever since, but i'm slowly creeping out... he sent me some email that really was even more weird than my post, lol

further aside, i had a flashback after your post the other day: you and Susan (what a story!) were the first net folks i ever met, even if it was just a 10 second hello back at Massey, i spotted you guys wearing cool Tshirts (did that lead to a nasty EMP email also?, lol)... i later went up and hassled Jenney, Val, Darin, Andy, Charlene, what a gas

back on topic, thanks for the urls, guys... i envy folks who have never read that stuff and who dig out Songbook or the urls for first time!

lol, hey, don't you yaya sistas ( ) play that guilt card stuff on me, even though i deserve it
... BUT

i was entirely enjoying the company of my first GL-fan internet contact person: barbara from boston and time ran short

even though me and bro only treated her to a cheapo french fry dinner (i think she liked Harvey's poutine better) before the the Massey show, i guess you could say i was already at a Barb-beque, lol!

thanks for surfacing great memories though (even with the re-scolding, lol), i loved the 'steady' footage you took of memories captured of all the Lightheads at the char-stead

i think that concert began with Let it Ride (just like the other night), no? loved it

lastly, i was referring to FOUR years ago when i met john and youze guys, that's wasn't the char-beque... that was the next year, that's when i met lovely bru in the isles (i mean, aisles ) ...you or lisa get your license and drive out for a harry-beque!

silly boy (i like that better than 'doofus'), lol

Songbook Booklet "liner notes""
I constantly have a problem refinding these long deleted Rhino pages the link above now denies that that page exists. I have now made a new easier to remember "notlong' link that will open an archived set of Rhino pages on Songbook from 2003.
http://www.songbook.notlong.com
The header has links to all the other songbook booklet sections (if you click the "liner notes" tag

My book is still in A+ condition. The CD's are A~okay and the box is still about an "A". The cases are a little A- due to constant in & out from the box,but they can be replaced.

I can't believe it'll be 5 years on Aug. 7th since I bought it!

For those who have never had the opportunity of reading the superb songbook booklet
there are 5 main sections all on line in that archived collection:-
1.Producer's Note Thane Tierney
(he is no longer with Warners/Rhino)
2.A Word From Gordon Lightfoot
(background to the compilation in Gord's own words)
3.Gordon Lightfoot: Master Craftsman of Popular Song
(by Nicholas Jennings )
4.If You Could Read My Mind: Gord Speaks Out About His Music
(the nearest you'll get to what some songs are all aboot)
5.Tracklist
( or click the link on the page's menu bar)
(all the dates, band members, which album each track comes from etc)
Ijust reread 4 it's brilliant
John Fowles
EDITED Sunday 26 February to add clickable links to the archived individual sections
