Default A farewell to Keely Smith

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keely_Smith

Well, I haven't made a thread like this in awhile but when I read this on Wiki, I had to. I'd heard no news of her about it and thought, "she needs a mention. "

The below listed songs are her only U.S. Hot 100 singles but "That Old Black Magic" was one of the first songs I heard, from my parents 45's, as a little boy. Possibly almost 45 years ago now.

I loved many (then) new songs to my ears but that one absolutely floored me, because (I believe) she was also one of the first female singers of that musical vein I'd heard.

She (and Louis Prima (from what I've seen and read) faded out fast after the 50s ended. Louis passed on in 1978 at 57. I had always wonderd what Keely was doing all that tim since 1960. I never heard about her on the news or ET , nothing.

So, in tribute Keely, I thank you and all involved for such a great rendition of a wonderful song. It never fais to give that sine 'chill' of "Yeah, that's awesome."

Rest In Peace Keely Smith.
