I'm going to listen to this cd shortly just to have a fresh opinion. I did this with "Harmony" one time and my appreciation for it took a sharp turn for the better. It was probably more relevant for me after some time.

For some reason, Salute was a much underrated album, yes; it was released as an album, which I still have. Not one of the greatest, although it was very reminiscent of Lightfoot and a variety of his musical styles. Yet it wasn’t given a great deal of attention. I guess this was partially due to the somewhat subtle hitherto stagnant timbre and direction. This album could have been the reason the next release, East of Midnight, attempted to take a different turn and course, including new musicians, styles and textures. “By the way, East of Midnight should be discussed as a separate string on this Forum; it offers a great deal of room for lively dialogue, because of the nature of the beast.” I’m not going to introduce the thread, I’ll leave that up to another member who has more credibility and is more established in things Lightfoot.

Now, back to Salute, here’s how the songs stack up for me:

1. Tattoo
2. Whispers Of The North
3. Romance
4. Salute
5. Biscuit City
6. Someone To Believe In
7. Knotty Pine
8. Without You
9. Broken Dreams
10. Gotta Get Away

Tattooo is far and away ahead of the rest of the pack; the chord changes and melody evokes a couple of my other favorite tunes.
