Having been a Gordon Lightfoot fan since 1967, it would be impossible for me to list just one song. A coupleof years ago I had to have heart surgery and was told that my chances of surviving it were very small. Naturally this gives a person some serious thinking. While listening to Gordon's Songbook, "Heaven Don't Deserve Me" jumped out at me. I left a note in my lockbox for my wife and children to play that song if I did not make it. Obviously I did, but I have since instructed them to play it at my funeral when my time does come. Lightfoot's songs can strike a chord with almost anyone. Even in his young age he had a tremendous amount of wisdom. With his album "A Painter Passing Through" his career has come full circle. To me he is perhaps one of the greatest storytellers of all-time. You can find a Gordon Lightfoot to match almost any situation you are going through in life. I have had the honor of seeing him perform over 20 times in my life and hope to see him once more before his or my time on this earth ends.

tBone,
welcome - each one of us here agrees with
you that Gord is one of the world's greatest
storytellers - maybe even the best.
I am so glad you made it thru the surgery
and wish you many more years of Lightfoot
enjoyment. Your comment about 'Heaven Dont
Deserve Me' being played at your funeral
(hopefully in the far distant future) made
me think about which song I would choose.
May I steal your suggestion for a new
thread? I think it would make interesting
reading.
BTW - why dont you come to Toronto in Nov 2002.

SilverHeels, Thanks for the invite and by all means use it, also hopefully in the far future. He is supposed to perform in Des Moines, Iowa in November, I know that is almost a 1,000 miles from here in SC. I am originally from West Central Illinois and am going to be up there for Thanksgiving. I have full intentions of driving the extra 200 miles to Des Moines. He may have lost a little of the voice, but he is still Gordon Lightfoot.

tbone,

I promise you, the Lightfoot voice is in
great shape. At the Massey in May, he played
three nights and the Saturday concert was
possibly the best - he sounded GREAT!
You will not be disappointed! Have a
wonderful time.
