Another star left us last night. After doing what he loved, performing to a live audience, Gene Pitney died in a Cardiff hotel room last night. Fondly remembered, sadly missed.

I second that. Another loss and only 65.

Very fondly remembered. Sad to die alone in a hotel room.

This is sad. It was only last year that I bought an album of his hits & then a CD,still needing one song but as they are they were worth it.

At least he lived long enough to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in '02 and live to enjoy it. Although he was in relative obscurity before that.

He was a very good artist and sort of like Gordon,no one sounded like he did.

May he rest in peace.

Good-bye to the "Rockville Rocket". Rockville, CT, where Mr. Pitney was raised, is a small town east of Hartford; I grew up in neighboring Manchester, and Mr. Pitney lived his adult life in Somers, CT, near the MA border. He was known in this area as a modest, unassuming man who was a loving and enthusiastic father and a loyal friend. It's interesting that during the past 30 or so years he had a much more enthusiastic following in Europe than in the U.S.--in some ways, it's not at all surprising that he passed away on tour in Wales. All together, a class act who will be missed.
