I'm going crazy trying to remember a great GL song which was included as part of a movie's soundtrack. My recollection is very vague....the movie would be about 3 -6 years old (High Fidelity?, Being John Malmovich?). It was an edgy film like that, and the scene I recall (again, only vaguely) had our hero, a music snob, in his bedroom and he slips on the GL song and pronounces it to be "great" to his unrefined visitors. There were many songs in the soundtrack but only this one GL song. I was never much of a GL fan but this song, if I could ever figure out what it was, may change all that!
Please help me determine the song & the movie! Thank you.

Could be either "Wonderland" which featured "If You Could Read My Mind" or the more recent Vincent Gallo film, "The Brown Bunny" which uses Gord's "Beautiful." There are a couple of older films from the 80s for which he wrote and/or performed music.

I bet it was Wonderland. If You Could Read My Mind was played over the closing credits. It's a pretty good movie actually, about the life of porn star John Holmes. Someone mentioned a while back that Holmes was a Lightfoot fan

Well,I just found out for sure it wasn't "High Fidelity". So,it most likely is Wonderland.

I think more movies should use his songs. By the way, I heard a song of his today but not his voice...I can't think of the name..."Bend in the Water"?

In the movies"High Fidelity", one of the record store losers proclaims, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" one of the Top 10 songs about death. It's a pretty funny reference...

I take it you mean by "but not his voice"
that you heard a cover version??
Checking the fount of all Lightfoot knowledge where there is a reasonably complete list of cover versions at:-http://www.lightfoot.ca/covers.htm
I see that there are two covers listed by Wayne Francis of
Bend In The Water
the first is by some weird Californian hick singer (Derek Kidd by name)-I am not kidding
who foisted/donated a version for an earlier (internet) tribute CD
the second could be the version you heard
HARRY MANX
Bend In The Water
