Some of you know me and some do not. I was a regular poster at a.m.l (alt.music.lightfoot) for a number of years and have posted here occasionally. I still lurk here and there most everyday.

My wife Charlotte and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary April 16th.

I've been wracking my brains for a special gift for her and at this late date and because of job responsibilities we really can not go out of town.

Anyone got a great idea?

congrats to charlotte and Doug!

A lovely dinner out (or catered in) and a "promise" ring that promises another 30 wonderful years together would be romantic. (engraved with your wedding date and 30 anniv.date)
Perhaps with that promise you could also promise a weekend away at a later date when it's more time suitable....
Knowing how family oriented you are you could also have a brunch which would include your children. set up as an "easter" get together!)
I know that day is Easter sunday so it could be a surprise on the 15th.
Having "missed" my 30th a couple of years ago I must say how happy I am for both of you.

let us know what you do!

Congratulations to you both! How about a heart on a bracelet or as a pendant - inscribed with April 16 1976 - April 16 2006 ?
Have a wonderful 30th Anniv.

Doug - plumguru2 Doug ! Formerly gismapman, mapgeek, now called geodeticman - Steve Dunbar - remember me from circa 1997 alt.music.lightfoot, or before that mathew pfifer's chat room? I always forget that older room. Wayne Francis ocaasionally chat with us, and Shirly Hoggard (OKSKY).

Congratulations on 30 years ! 25 for my wife and I !

I suggest jewelry, or a weekend getaway to the mountains for a big one like 30. Very fortunate, we are.

Doug, Very happy for you on the thirty year mark and hope you have many, many more wonderful anniversaries. Of course at your 50th we all expect a large gathering of Lightfoot fans to help you celebrate!
I agree with the suggestions of jewelry, if you can not get out of town how about a nice weekend at a posh hotel with room service and a evening "on the town".
How wonderful for both of you! Congratulations.

Doug - come to think of it if memory serves we used to chat here and there in the old prodigy Lightfoot room, before alt.music. irs so long ago i'd be surprised if u remember me back then, but my postings were real long then as mosr are now. Hop your weekend goes great ! - Steve

ps oksky remembers me - Shirley, and i spoke some of the mountaineering accident during that time as i recall. thats my best shot at helping u remember.

Doug, congratulations to you and Charlotte, the most patient woman in the world!
I love the idea of an anniversary ring, the three stone type is a wonderful thought. It doesn't even have to be diamonds, it could incorporate both of your kids birth stones too.
Or, if you really want to give her a thrill, a new embroidery sewing machine! I don't remember if Charlotte has one or not.
You might get away cheaper with jewelery though!

Let me preface the story of our 30th with a little insight.
We both believed that our 30th anniversary was VERY important.
The problem was we had just spent $2000-$2500 celebrating her parents 50th anniversary back in Arkansas. Our Visa bill has never been so high so like it or not we were both on a strict budget.

My wife loves good CLEAN humor and I love to make her laugh, so I am always on the look out for that. I was listening to an internet radio staion with clean comedy and heard a guy
(http://www.tbubba.com)
I thought she would really enjoy. Knowing we would be doing some driving around that weekend, I went to the iTunes store and sure enough there was his album so I downloaded it and burned it to a disc to give to her.

I also enlisted the aid of my daughter who did some checking around. My wife is good friends with a gal who sells Mary Kay and has been wanting a selction of their products.

So Friday I got off early and as we were leaving for our first destination I gave her the CD. She put it in the player and before long was in stitches. I took her to an iMax movie about Greece (seems a bit weird but she really liked it) besides the theater is in Balboa Park with is full of museums and incredible architecture. The only bad part is that it had started raining.

After out theater adventure, we went out to dinner at The Black Angus Restaurant, we've been going there since we were married. We had an appetizer platter we couldn't finish, those delicious little bread loafs, salads, and our entree - Filet Mignon for 2. Dessert was their Big Mountain Chocolate Fudge Cake

After that the old fuddy duddies went home to spend time with our daughter and her beau.

Saturday morning we went to a new breakfast place she wanted to try in Pacific Beach called The Broken Yoke. The place was packed but it was only a 10 minute wait. Food was plentiful but the crowd, mostly young college or surfer types were so loud we could hardly hear each other. It was interesting.

We left there and stopped at Mission Bay. We took a walk (perhaps a mile and a half) around a portion of it. There were scull teams practicing their sweeping.

We did something Saturday night but for the life of me I can't remember what it was

Sunday morning (our actual 30th) we got up and went to church. It was my turn to led the singing. I had prepared well and afterward there were many comments about how good the singing was that day. We came home to a light lunch, I took my scriptural nap and then it was time for evening services.

That night I gave her a card and the Mary Kay collection. She was surprised and asked how we knew she had been wanting it. I told her I couldn't reveal my sources but that I had spies.

All in all everything went well. It would have been nice to leave home but we had a good time anyway.

Happy Anniversary to you and Charlotte! I'm sorry, but somehow I missed this thread entirely until now.

It sounds like you had a lovely weekend. But, tell me, are SURE you don't remember what you did Saturday night?

Just teasing ... I believe you. Sometimes I don't remember what I did an hour ago, let alone a week or two ago.

Do you know how hard it is to get any privacy while you've still got 2 kids at home?

Well since some of you guys are so interested, I checked with Charlotte and after laughing about how silly it was that we couldn't remember, it finally came to us.

We watched the 2nd Zorro movie with Antonio and Catherine.

I'm sure that's NOT what she meant, Doug.

Congrats to you and Charlotte.
